This one should have gone to Stankonia. It’s OutKast’s masterpiece, and as audacious, brilliant, and hard-hitting as any rap album. It ranks in my top 10 of that decade. Love and Theft is another great Bob Dylan album and the best one of his later years. While All That You Can’t Leave Behind isn’t my favourite U2 album, it’s still a damn good rock record and did really good numbers. It also has some of their hardest-hitting material. I don’t mind the OBWAT soundtrack, but the artists on it have done much better work. I also don’t get why they nominated India.Arie over Alicia Keys when Alicia’s album was bigger and better and she beat India.Arie for BNA.

    India or OutKast should’ve won.

Alicia would’ve been nominated in a line up of 8.

Honey; Aaliyah, Aaliyah and Sade, Lovers Rock should’ve been nominated for Album of the Year in 2002.

Glad, NARAS chose India.Arie over the overrated Alicia Keys for Album of the Year.  Arie had the better album.

    Rankings:
    1. India.Arie, Acoustic Soul (fucking amazing!)
    2. OutKast, Stankonia (amazing!)
    3. Various Artists, O Brother, Where Art Thou? (BARF!)
    4. Bob Dylan, Love and Theft (BARF!)
    5. U2, All That You Can’t Leave Behind (BARF!)

Aaliyah’s album was too ahead of it’s time.

    2003, Album of the year

    The nominees were:

Norah Jones – Come Away With Me (Winner)

    Dixie Chicks –  Home

    Eminem – The Eminem Show

    Nelly – Nellyville

    Bruce Springsteen – The Rising

The 2003 Line-up had many previous nominees like Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Dixie Chicks and the newcomer winner Norah Jones. Come Away With Me was a  slow burner. It debuted at #139 on BB200 and started rising the chart until it reached the top around the time of Grammys 2003. It sold over 11 million copies in USA.  The tranquil nature of the album, in an age where big pop stars were dominating the scene convinced the Academy for Norah Jones. Come Away With Me also won Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. The song “Don’t Know Why” won Song of the Year, Record of the Year, and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.

Norah deserved! Such an iconic sweep. Her album ended up outselling everyone’s during the 2000s.

I would have given it to Eminem. Such a landmark album in rap and it dominated that year.

The Eminem album is the only truly noteworthy nominee. Springsteen’s had a few really great songs but was overall lackluster, and the eventual winner is just plain dull.

Eminem’s always been overrated and i’m glad he’s never won AOTY. The Roots Phrenology would have made a MUCH more welcome inclusion for AOTY.

Norah Jones deserved her W. That was a great album

Eminem + 2nd Album of the Year nomination = BARF!

Honey, Norah Jones deserved her win.  Enjoy Dixie Chicks and Nelly albums.
