Boyfriend is a cute summer bop and the video is even cuter. I wonder if this’ll go #1? I’m gonna say it hits the top 5 for now since Scooter and Republic seem to be pushing it like its a lead.

Is it your job to bitch about everything Ariana Grande related? She’s a Grammy winner. We know you can’t stand her. Move on. 😭 Crying on the forums cause she comps her own vocals. Girl GONE!

Girl please. I know you’re a stan but you need to see the woods for the trees. She doesn’t comp shit.

Give me a song where she has a mixing credit and I’ll be impressed. I speak facts. If you want to believe she’s this multi-talented genius in a fantasy world of yours you’re free to do so.

I’m not even a stan, I just enjoy her music. And why does it even matter. You’re on the internet stressing in the middle of the night whether a celebrity musician actually comps her vocals or not? 😭 Like PLEASE get some help because this weird obsession you seem to have with stalking this girl’s every move is just corny. I know she eats your soul alive.

Lol. I don’t think you understand how “credits” work.

Even mere feedback on the production such as “I want the drums to be louder” can get you a minor production credit. The “vocal production” credit is most likely for the harmonies she tends to add.

Comping vocals would fall under mixing, which she clearly doesn’t have any credit under.

And yes go to the “Personnel” tab and check yourself.

Ariana is a skilled vocalist. That’s it. She should stop trying to pretend she’s good at anything else. She’s neither a songwriter, nor a mixing engineer.

No, comping vocals is producing. Mixing is something entirely different – even a lot of producers don’t know how to mix their own tracks so that they don’t sound like a wreck or peak on the mix. Adding harmonies and equalizing them is not mixing. Please stop talking of things you have no idea.

And no, not everyone gets a production credit – most artists don’t get production credits for their vocals.

I don’t know why you’re so adamant to admit that she does comp her own vocals. It’s really not that big of a deal, and considering she’s always been obssesed with vocal production (she own a lot, a lot of voice-related instruments), it’s really not odd for her to comp her vocals. Aside that there’s actual video proof that she does, and Pharell himself said it.

Believe what you want but the proof is literally right there. Alexa play Obsessed by Mariah Carey.

Girl please, do you even know what comping is? Comping is a part of mixing. It’s when you select the best parts of multiple takes and mix them together along with the instrumental tracks.

And no I didn’t say she got production credit for singing harmonies. I said it could be for feedback or coming up with her signature harmonies that she tends to have in every song of hers. Other artists may not have production credits because they don’t add any personal touch however small it may be. Ariana does, but it doesn’t mean she’s a producer. You can get credit for really minor contributions.

Any artist that tells you that they are a producer, aside from the likes of Charlie Puth who actually produces his own song, is bullshitting you. It’s not easy to master such skills and I know from personal experience. And most pop stars don’t have time to learn such complicated softwares and tools. Not to mention that producing is also tied to instruments, which Ariana doesn’t master.

Anyway, if you want to continue believing she’s a mixing engineer now feel free to do so lol.

That’s not mixing. Mixing/sound engineers take care of the song actually sounding like a coherent mix/spacious mix. Comping vocals is selecting the best parts and organizing them, and then adding them to the mix. After the producers are done, the team sends it to the mixing engineer, who takes care of the mix and then bounces it to mastering. Comping vocals is not part of the mixing process, it’s part of the producing. Mixing engineers don’t have anything to do with the choices made for the track (including which vocals are on it and which are not). They just get the track, and mix it properly according to the producer’s/artist’s demands.

The problem is that many producers don’t actually bother to send the track to a mixing engineer and decide to leave the mix as it is on the DAW, which often results in songs sounding like this (whoever mixed that song needs to be fired).

Ariana is just a singer and we all know that. She can post or tries to do whatever she wants but she isn’t musically talented enough to write, compose or produce her songs. She also has no music background and doesn’t play instruments. She became and is famous because of her vocals not because she’s a talented songwriter like Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift.

Please stop with this bullshit. Everybody except @Boz knows Ariana is just a singer and that’s where her talent ends like Whitney Houston and Celine Dion.

I think Boyfriend is likely just a buzz single that is riding the coattails of the era. The song is just tun 2.0 with Social House slapped onto it. Seems more like a charity song for a concert opener than a real piece of work. Decent chorus though.
