Two 80s and three 60s now on AOTY.org. I think it’ll rest somewhere in the 70s.

the production on ‘motive’ is super great, the blend of 90’s dance pop with R&B.  amazing. The Abel feat is such a waste tho, boring.

The album have few standouts, but overall its an alright album

    75/100

After listening to it several times I think I’d put this as my 4th favorite Ari album. It has some REALLY great standout tracks, like pov and 34+35, which I think are some of the best of her career, but there was too much filler for me to enjoy the album as a whole. I think I’d like it better if it was a few songs shorter and also if she enunciated better, but that may just be a personal pet peeve of mine.

Overall 7/10. I’ll come back to it in a few days again because I think it may be a grower and I really want to like it more than I do now.

Tommy Brown produced this whole album. What a mess! Why are pop girls so damn stupid. She should’ve had Max Martin on it. First Taylor, then Katy, nkw Ariana. Why is no one working with Max anymore. He is by far the most successful pop producer of all time.

Not really. Telegraph, Independent and Slant all gave it a 60. Stereogum didnt like it.

Sounds like 50-60 for me. And SPIN do count for Metacritic, and heavily weighted tho

3,5 stars out of 5 for me (or 70/100). Not too good, not too bad.

Max Martin is extremely tired and dated. He got lucky with “Blinding Lights” this year, but before that he was severely lacking in the hits department just because everyone is over him (BL was his first #1 since 2016, and before that he had gotten a #1 every year since 1999).

Not true. Every single hit from Ariana is by Max Martin except for 7 Rings and TU,N. Even on her last album Max tracks are the most memorable outside of singles.

Does anyone know why positions isn’t showing up on Metacritic? I can only find the scores on AOTY.org. Normally a MC page for an album is made right when it comes out.

The more I’ve listened to this, the less essential it seems. Like, why does this exist? It’s not like tons have been begging for an Ariana album this year. It’s not like she isn’t working strictly in her wheelhouse throughout this entire album. I guess this is supposed to be the “sexy” and optimistic counterpart to TUN. However, there’s nothing new here and no finessing finessing of what came before. So many of these songs lack hooks, intriguing lyrics or interesting production. Some nice vocals of course, she also falls back into the mush-singing here and there, something she has mostly avoided since DW. It’s “cohesive” and it ain’t bad, but why she here Ike?

POV, 34+35 and My Hair are my standout tracks so far.
