She was ineligible because they didn’t want her to win… If they did, they’d have changed the rules in time.

I very much doubt that was the case.

Best New Artist has a reputation for often going to one-hit wonders and being the kiss of death for artists’ careers. I’m sure they would have loved for someone like her to win to further prove the category’s credibility.

Well, they’ve changed the rules in the middle of the eligibility period at least once(2017). If they really wanted Gaga to get the nomination, they would’ve done the same. I’m sure no one would have complained about it.

I doubt most of these albums were ever close to winning, considering how many of them lost to indisputable legends (Quincy Jones, U2, Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock) or, like, the most successful female albums in living memory (Jagged Little Pill, Come Away With Me, Fearless, 21, 1989, 25).

    Still,
    Mariah Carey
    1991: runner-up
    1996:
    2005: runner-up (tie)

    Eminem
    2001: runner-up
    2003: fourth
    2010: fourth

    Kanye West
    2005: fourth
    2006: runner-up (tie)
    2008: runner-up

    Beyoncé
    2010: runner-up
    2015: third (fourth?)
    2017: runner-up

    Kendrick Lamar
    2014: third (fourth?)
    2016: runner-up
    2018: runner-up

    Lady Gaga
    2010: third (fourth?)
    2011: third
    2012: third (fourth? fifth?)

Honey, Lady Gaga did NOT deserve three consecutive AOTY noms. That’s some bullshit!

    CHRISTINA AGUILERA

    2019 Grammy Award nominee:

Best Pop Duo/Group Performance - "Fall In Line"
    Best Rap/Sung Performance - "Like I Do"

Honey, watch out, because I think she may become the first female artist, at least this century, or maybe ever, to score 4 AoTY nominations, if she gets an AoTY nod for ASIB next year LOL!

Barbra Streisand was nominated 6 times. Beyoncé 4 times including The Fame Monster. It’s been done.

Honey, see the post above. Plus, A Star Is Born is NOT guaranteed an AOTY nom. It will be totally forgotten about by the end of next year.

Honey, it was just certified platinum few days ago 2 months after its release:

It’ll probably have 2-3M SPS by October next year. The Grammy’s don’t forget about big selling albums.

The only thing that can work against a 4th AoTY nod for her, is if she sweeps this year and they may not want her to win big again two years in a row.

Out of following artists who are some of the artists to be nominated for AOTY +3 times as a lead artist without winning, what album do you think they were closest to winning with?

    Mariah Carey:

    1991 – Mariah Carey

    1996 – Daydream

2006 – The Emancipation of Mimi

I think that Mariah Carey was third at best for Album of the Year in 1991 and I think that Phil Collins was runner up to Quincy Jones.

I was actually rooting for Mariah Carey to win for Daydream and I think that she was runner up. Alannis’ debut was stunning, but Daydream was Mariah’s best (to me).

Mariah had to be extremely disappointed because Whitney Houston and Celine Dion both won Album and Record of the Year and she failed to win both categories the 3 times that she was up for both.

Damn you’re really one of the most obsessive Gaga haters on this board. Not about this specific comment but girl, focus a bit more on the ones you do love cause I see you being bothered in every thread where you can possibly talk about Gaga.

Apparently Radiohead were also nominated for AOTY 3 times. I don’t think they were ever close to a win though, lol.

The Grammy awards year for OK Computer was actually 1998 and it was beaten by a Bob Dylan album that almost no-one remembers.
