I was watching a documentary on Youtube about the singer Mya and it got me thinking about how successful she was in the late 90’s and how she kind of just vanished from the mainstream scene at the turn of the century. I hear she’s been releasing music independently for a number of years, but it seems like she could have had a bigger career if her record label had supported her more.
That begs the question, what other artists in your view deserved bigger or more successful careers, and why did their career not last longer?
It is also kinda sad to me to see how far Ashanti’s career fell. She was super huge in the late 90’s/early 2000’s and then literally just stopped being famous. She just stopped getting those big collabs and her albums started tanking.September 16, 2019 at 5:44 am #1203079790

I always thought Charli XCX was going to be a huge household name. She has a the singing and songwriting abilities to- she’s landed five songs in the BB100, two which were #1 (Fancy and Senorita), and another that was #5 (Same Old Love). I do love that she didn’t go mainstream and is making music she loves, however.September 16, 2019 at 10:14 am #1203080307This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.September 16, 2019 at 10:18 am #1203080319

I will say, I was always surprised at how quickly Toni Braxton’s career sort of fizzled out. She was so huge and then she sort of lost all her fame. She made a series of poor choices in her life and career; between bankruptcy (twice), choosing the wrong management and record label (Barry Hankerson/Blackground Records) and simply never having the same star power that her contemporaries like Mariah, Whitney or Janet had.

P.S. My guess as to why they were not more successful? Sadly the brain train can only travel so far for too many other people on this planet.
