Can SZA just win?November 28, 2017 at 1:49 pm #1202423637
It’s between Alessia, Khalid, and SZA… I’m gonna go with SZA, because her album was so acclaimed, and she’ll probably end up taking Urban Contemporary as well.November 28, 2017 at 1:57 pm #1202423654
I think this is SZA’s to take. A black female singer hasn’t won this award since 2010. Also she getting some exposure for being featured on Maroon 5’s top 10 hit What lovers do.
I don’t see them awarding another rapper so soon and Vert isn’t really renowned for his rapping ability.
Khalid, Alessia Cara, and Julia Michaels all have good cases for a win. This category is really up in the air.
WILL WIN: SZA
SHOULD WIN: SZANovember 28, 2017 at 2:02 pm #1202423660
Honey, you girls waste no time creating these threads.
Lil Uzi Vert is just here for the ride. Julia Michaels seems promising, but won’t win. This is a three-way race between Alessia Cara, Khalid, and SZA. Khalid had a good year and SZA did well. Plus, she has critical acclaim. Cara finally broke through with a nomination. As a result, she’ll win.
SHOULD WIN: Khalid
WILL WIN: Alessia CaraNovember 28, 2017 at 2:23 pm #1202423705
I don’t see Khalid taking home BNA. He got less nominations than I personally expected (he could’ve got 7). Plus, a black male artist took it last year.
SZA vs Alessia Cara seems to me like Tori Kelly vs Meghan Trainor, one a critically acclaimed singer with some minor hits, and the other has big hits but doesn’t have that much acclaim. I think since SZA will probably win R&B performance and/or Urban Contemporary, Cara will take this one.November 28, 2017 at 2:27 pm #1202423712
Julia Michaels is pushed a little by the blue pannel as she’s nowhere to be seen outside of the general field. Lil Uzi Vert is just a no.
I think I’m going to vote Khalid but it will be close.November 28, 2017 at 3:06 pm #1202423760
I’ve always thought this race was Alessia Cara’s to lose, and with this lineup being what it is, I don’t think she will. This will be a makeup to her for not getting in last year plus the huge year she’s currently having. No country nominees here is greatly shocking, especially after two nominees were included last year. Guess that canceled out this year.November 28, 2017 at 3:15 pm #1202423766
I’m going with SZA. She will be on SNL in December, just in time for voting. Her album is the most acclaimed and she’s the most nominated along with Khalid (like Chance The Rapper last year).
Alessia Cara reminds me of Drake. Had a breakthrough year before landing in BNA and still lost.
I feel like Khalid kinda underperformed in the R&B field, without an R&B Performance nomination – a nomination SZA managed to get.
Lil Uzi Vert is not winning here. Julia Michaels has that SOTY nomination, but I still think her nominations will be her awards.
SZA edges the others.November 28, 2017 at 8:26 pm #1202424044
Come on………this is just a competition between SZA and Khalid.
SZA will win.November 28, 2017 at 8:44 pm #1202424077
Should Win: Alessia Cara
Will Win: Alessia Cara
Lil Uzi Vert is OUT. Julia Michaels will get votes from songwriters and artists who target younger listeners, but may not appeal to older voters. And she may be a very good songwriter but she has too few singles as an artist.
The real competition is among SZA, Khalid and Alessia Cara. SZA will probably appeal only to urban voters as she hasn’t had a high level of crossover success yet. Khalid will take definitely earn a decent amount of R&B votes and some pop votes. Alessia Cara has the most commercial success and she will earn the mainstream support, especially from pop and some R&B voters.
This is really Alessia Cara’s award to lose. She has a fantastic and extremely likeable voice, is extremely versatile (with pop/R&B/dance songs), her songs are very inspiring (w/o being cheesy) and relatable to. And she already has a decent number of BB Hot 100 Top 10 hits. I can see even a Country voter supporting Alessia Cara. It would be a travesty if she doesn’t win (though I also support Khalid).November 28, 2017 at 8:47 pm #1202424079
It’s between Alessia and SZA. I don’t see Khalid winning when SZA is the stronger R&B representative. Lil Uzi Vert, as others have said, is a complete non-factor in the race. Julia Michaels was a surprise, but with no pop nominations like Alessia, it doesn’t look like she has the numbers.
We’ll see how SZA’s SNL performance affects her momentum. But Alessia has had three massive hits this year. That’s pretty hard to ignore, and it’s what helped Meghan Trainor win a few years ago.November 28, 2017 at 9:12 pm #1202424108
Alessia is almost certainly winning. I honestly expected her to get the nom last year. SZA could win though with Ctrl being popular and she’s just getting more and more popular by the day.November 29, 2017 at 8:27 am #1202424576
Spoiler: Alessia CaraNovember 29, 2017 at 8:47 am #1202424601
I guess I can see Alessia winning since she’s in the GF. Julia Michaels is too but she just has the one hit. Sza has the successful album and will be performing on SNL, however she may split votes with Khalid. I want Sza to win but I think Alessia will edge her out.
