Don’t see why or how they would go with Kesha with no Grammy history. “Praying” is a nice sentiment, but it is also not a very big hit. “Million Reasons” is no big smash, but it did get way more exposure than “Praying” and it has sentimental value itself. It would make much more sense to go with Gaga as second option to Ed Sheeran.

I feel like Gaga and Kesha will really split votes. They both had a big change in musical direction with their albums leading to their first vocal ballads as singles. Million Reasons got the heavier promotion, but Praying has the bigger backstory. They will keep eachother from winning, but I’m still happy they both got nominated as they both deserve it.

Kelly and P!nk can split votes, too. That’s why I’m predicting Ed Sheeran. “Shape of You” is the biggest smash here, he’s the only male and there seems to be sentiment that he was robbed of general field nominations (don’t agree, though). I don’t think it’s a Justin Timberlake situation, since “Mirrors” didn’t have anything on “Royals.”

It’s between Ed (#1) and Gaga(#4). Divide will win pop album.

    Should Win: Million Reasons
    Will Win: Shape Of You

Pink can’t split votes with anybody because nobody will vote for her. Kelly has only won this with huge hits.

Gaga and Sheeran are the frontrunners.

Kesha is the spoiler if she gets pity votes, but I think she already did to get these nominations and this it for her this year. And what’s with the “no Grammy history” comment? Don’t people win Grammys without Grammy history all the time? The problem is that she has a shitty history as an artist before all of this happened. So she needs to build some credibility first, which she’s doing.

After all the headlines that surrounded Kesha these past few years, awarding Kesha will be a big tv moment. If they televise this category or pop vocal album, Kesha’s going to win.

Kesha will win both nominations. End of the discussion. Her vocals are INSANE. I wanna see her winning it with Dr. Luke watching it live.

    Stop overthinking, guys.

Sheeran is easily walking away with this, especially after all this “Ed Sheeran was snubbed” narrative.

I think “Shape Of You” will win Pop Vocal Performance.
That will be the way the Academy will apologize to Ed for his omission in the general field, as it happened with “Happy” a couple of years ago.

Like you said, her Grammy history is “shitty,” so I find it hard to believe that she would go from no nominations between 3 or 4 albums to a big Grammy winner over Ed Sheeran and Gaga. This is not a Sam Smith case at all.

And it’s ridiculous to say “no one” would vote for P!nk, especially if you think Kesha will pull a ton of votes with no nominations to P!nk’s several. P!nk’s issue has always been about timing and competition; does not mean she never received support – she’s a three time Grammy winner. Kesha has done well this year, overcoming her whole assault thing and all, but she is not winning. The Grammys have yet to award anything that’s not a top 10 or #1 hit in Best Pop Solo Performance, and the streak will not end here with a first time nominee with a moderate hit. This is kinda like how everyone thought Kelly Clarkson was this huge threat to Adele last year.

If they really cared about the back story she’d be in SOTY too. The nomination is her reward. If it’s televised, it’s to give Ed Sheeran his moment for a huge year.

The nominations in general were a surprise for everyone. So I think we can have more surprises to come. I wouldn’t underestimate Kelly Clarkson.

Everything nominated was mentioned in this Grammy cycle, including “Praying.” “Million Reasons” is the most logical thing to a “surprise,” not “Praying.”
