    1. Shape of You
    2. Million Reasona
    3. What About Us

    Personal Preference
    1. Million Reasons
    2. Love So Soft
    3. Shape of You

I mean it should be vocal performance but the winner here is always the song thats a chart topper.

Girls, get into this! The winner of this category has hit #1 with the exception of one winner:

    2011 – Adele, “Someone Like You” (#1)
2012 – Adele, “Set Fire to the Rain (#1)
    2013 – Lorde, “Royals” (#1)
    2014 – Pharrell Williams, “Happy” (#1)
2015 – Ed Sheeran, “Thinking Out Loud” (#2)
    2016 – Adele, “Hello” (#1)

Correct, but “Someone Like You” was Adele’s first winner, not “Rolling in the Deep.” Even then, that was a big hit.

Ed Sheeran isn’t going to lose this, but if there were to be a hypothetical next best chance, it would obviously be Kesha, not Lady Gaga, because of the message that gets sent when they cast that vote.

The very few people who vote for one of the 3 ballads will cancel each other out, though, and Kelly Clarkson’s song isn’t popular enough to triumph over Sheeran.

    He/She is right.

I also want to point out something. Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” was blocked by “Uptown Funk” for eight weeks. I mean that that song was the biggest SOLO hit of the year, outselling Blank Space and others.

I think “Loud” is not an exception in a way although it didn’t hit #1 officially.

I don’t know if this circle will be broken this year but in this situation, “Shape” is the winner.

There is no point to talk about “vocal abilities.” This category has never been related to vocal skills.

Honey, the cycle won’t be broken this year. Ed Sheeran is the only #1 hit here. The other nominees have no shot.

Praying is a great songs with a great vocal, you just can’t handle a C#5 from Kesha hahaha

LSS is the best option, but I believe Sheeran will win both awards too, especially now that Perfect is everywhere.

Yep. This award has always gone to a smash hit, and Sheeran has the only thing even resembling a smash.

Kelly is going to win this one the underdog that no one saw coming !!! she’s everywhere and she has been very vocal out there promoting Meaning of life performing at the Amas and reminding everyone what a powerhouse vocalist she is it’s not her fault youngsters are not streaming her songs or radio and the media not pushing her like they do with beyoncé, Taylor or sheeran and rihanna ….

Get real! Kelly Clarkson is NOT winning this category. We went through this last year when she was nominated. I would like for her to win, since she has the best song nominated.

Kelly would rightfully deserve this, but she won’t win this. Ed will definitely be taking this.

i’m not 100% sure, but i think Shape Of You can win here. this is an award not only for vocal performance, but also for the instrumental performance & it’s really the most recognizable thing about Shape Of You.

Question: Do the grammys basically reference hits in America or do they take into account hits overseas too? Shape of You was big everywhere, Million Reasons was mainly big in the US and What About Us was much bigger overseas. Praying was a moderate hit, mainly in the US but did impact international markets and Love So Soft was basically a flop. It’s an interesting thought because not all grammy voters live in America so some songs will be bigger to them than an American and vice versa. There has to be a huge American influence though because some songs that weren’t too popular overseas are getting nominated.

Part of me thinks that the voters don’t want to reward Ed this year. Again, I think Kesha will win because it’ll be such a “Grammy moment” (and she is deserved). I can already see the standing ovation.
