Should win (and should have been nominated): Melodrama – Lorde
Will Win: Divide – Ed Sheeran
    Spoiler: Rainbow – Kesha

@RRaW you said it yourself, “tweaking” not coming up with their own list instead.

When was the last time the best-selling album of the eligibility period was snubbed? I can’t think of any year that happened.

What happened this year is a dangerous precedent. I just hope that it won’t happen again.

Also your assumption about me being okay with a hypothetical kendrick snub are delusional and unfounded. If anything I remember in the music preference thread back in the day, I included his album as one I would nominate in AoTY category if I were a member. Am I a fan of the album? No. Does it need to be nominated? Yes.

And by the way, I only liked “Same Love” that doesn’t make me a Macklemore fan. And yes Sam Hunt’s Montevallo (if that’s what you were refering to) was a masterpiece. In a perfect world, he would’ve received an AoTY nomination.

It’s the 3rd Best Selling album of the eligibility period Kendrick and Bruno Sold more

I’m sure as hell Ed Sheeran won’t be attending.

It’ll be funny if he wins both awards and he won’t be there to accept them. I think it’ll be some sweet revenge.

They would just put the categories in the pre-show then and no one would notice.

@RRaw, Bruno’s 24K Magic was released 5 months before divide, it wouldn’t make sense to compare sales to date, since the window is that wide. I would estimate that it probably sold a bit less than DAMN and Divide, but Divide would be still leading both albums, in fact google “Divide best-selling album” and you’ll find many articles confirming that.

@RRaw, I despise music journalists. They’re the worst of the worst. They’re elitists who live in their own bubble, disconnected from the rest, thinking that their taste in music is superior to everyone else. So in my eyes they’re not a respectable intellectual authority to follow. It is inherently subjective to try and evaluate music anyway, which is why in my opinion overwhelmingly successful albums need recognition just for the fact that million of consumers around the world actually liked the music and bought it.

I lost even more respect for music journalists for the way they reacted to the Grammy’s this year. Some headlines were like “No white men in the nominees list! Diversity Triumphs!” Others were like “Grammy’s, your own solution is to stop nominating white artists”. Is this what music journalism has come to? More divisive than Trump’s rhetoric whom they always accuse of divisiveness and shit. It’s a sad day for Art, when the most important thing in an artist’s profile becomes his or her race.

Tune into the Billboard Awards then. There are enough platforms that reward popularity.

Katy Perry got AOTY nom for Teenage Dream with 52. So, at first, it wouldn’t be impossible for Ed.

Bizarre to me that anyone takes Metacritic seriously.

Some of the “critics” are so biased that the score doesn’t mean much.

I’m shooked that so many people think that Sheeran will go home empty-handed in the field.

Between Ed and Gaga. Ed has the edge. Can’t see any other nominee winning it.
