Metacritic scores mean absolutely nothing here. Ed Sheeran’s ‘÷’ has a score of 62 and still managed to win over Kesha’s ‘Rainbow’ which has 81.

But ÷ was a phenomenon, staying relevant all year, and with multiple hit songs (including the #1 song of the year and top 3 of the decade)

It’s Shawn’s to lose. But Ariana has the momentum at the moment.

Get real! Metacritic scores do NOT mean a damn thing and Shawn Mendes is NOT winning this category. The fuckery is real!

    It’s Shawn’s to lose.

Shawn is more of a dark horse than a locked winner.

    I’m thinking
    1. Reputation/Sweetener
    3. Shawn Mendes
    4. Camila
    5. Beautiful Trauma
    6. Meaning of Life

Ariana Grande, Camila Cabello and Shawn Mendes have one more nomination. And their albums have a better MC score : – 81 for Sweetener78 for Camila73 for Shawn Mendes – 73 Kelly Clarkson – 71 for Reputation – 64 for Beautiful Trauma So I think it’s between the 3 of them.

Metacritic has continued to never matter. Divide received dull reviews and it still was able to win. This is about Grammys popularity and overall Taylor is the most popular. Pop categories prove time and time again that they are popularity contests. And reputation is the winner when it comes to numbers and even if it’s not extremely critically acclaimed it still has it’s backers and that’s who will bring this album to the gold.

I don’t think MC scores matter as a whole, but obviously it indicates quality and support, which in weak years like this is useful.

I still have the mindset that Taylor has little support here. I mean, Delicate missing a nomination is not a good sign, and she seems to lack support from country voters as well (since she didn’t get in with Babe). The Sheeran comparison is not useful here, because he (most likely) missed the GF thanks to the BRP, not voting.

Still, she’s 10x Grammy winner Taylor Swift, so she could very well win.

I think it’ll come down to whether they chose to give Taylor the award as her consolation prize, or whethee they want to award somebody else. If it’s the latter (which I’m more inclined to believe right now), then Ariana has the edge over Camila since she’s been here before multiple times, and thanks to her tremendous buzz (Woman of The Year, #1 single, acclaim, etc).

I have Shawn over P!nk and Kelly because he could honestly win thanks to vote splitting. His music is by far the most “rock” out of the nominees, so he could benefit from that.

    1. reputation (30% chance)

    2. Sweetener (20% chance)

    2. Shawn Mendes (20% chance)

    4. Camila (15% chance)

    5. Beautiful Trauma (10% chance)

    6. Meaning Of Life (5% chance)

reputation is not guaranteed to win but this is has her name all over it. It was successful and it had a good amount of critical acclaim even if we used Metacritic scores (cough cough they don’t mean anything cough) then she would lose but look at Divide. Even if it was shoved out of all main categories, it was still able to dominate pop. Obviously Delicate didn’t get in so she can’t win that but she shouldn’t have a problem being able to take this award. Her biggest competition are Ariana and Shawn. Both released acclaimed albums even though the latter is really forgettable, they still can’t be ruled out. Sweetener’s R&B twists could put pop voters against it and Shawn Mendes’s boring acoustic tracks with no depth or feeling could be his demise. The only standouts are In My Blood and Lost In Japan. The rest feel like Ed Sheeran rejects. Camila seems to have a small chance of winning but it’s warm temperature sales and it’s lack of true depth leaves her just a few steps below Taylor, Ariana, and Shawn. If anything her real chances are with Havana in Best Pop Solo. Kelly and P!nk are pretty comfy with the academy but both of their previous bodies of work just didn’t click. Bad sales for Meaning Of Life and decent sales yet not very favorable views for Beautiful Trauma make them pure filler. A vote for them is a vote in the trash so I doubt the Grammy committee will even want to vote for them because of that reason. The big 4 is tight (Taylor, Ariana, Shawn, and Camila) but pop veterans P!nk and Kelly Clarkson don’t really stand a chance.

Babe was a big flop and it wasn’t very good. Just a Red reject from an album that already failed to win Grammys. So it not being nominated doesn’t really mean anything. But also don’t only pop voters vote for the pop awards?

I think voters can vote up to 15 categories (or is that for noms – idk). Even if, pop voters have snubbed Taylor in the past (and in the present), so it won’t matter much.

Babe was a hit on the country charts and Sugarland’s comeback song. So it missing out isn’t really that normal.

    I think if we’re going by %

    1. Reputation 30%
    2. Sweetener 20%
    3. Shawn Mendes 15%
    4. Camila 15%
    5. Beautiful Trauma 10%
    6. Meaning of Life 10%

Babe wasn’t actually big on pop charts. I followed it’s stats for months and it was never able to hit the top 10 on country and it’s video is getting less daily views than Stuck Like Glue as we speak. It wasn’t acclaimed and overall it was really only able to find some sales success from Taylor and since she didn’t want to promote it, nothing happened. Technically their comeback was Still The Same but that bombed. They needed Taylor to give them a moderate hit and they got it, but it didn’t get the acclaim or success it needed to get any nominations. Also yeah you’re right, they can vote for any 15 categories but It’s safe to assume that most of the voters will be looking for a pure pop album to vote for and reputation delivered on that aspect. The award has gone to the most popular album for the past few years and reputation fits the ballot here. It seems like a decent lock for her but there’s nothing’s for sure until it’s confirmed.

It’s Taylor’s to lose. His main field nomination may be big but that song not being in pop solo makes it seem that a whole ‘nother genre pushed that in like rock. Which a lot of rock people aren’t gonna vote for a pop category even if they can as they don’t have much expertise in them. So this is really Taylor’s award but Shawn and Ariana still do stand a chance.

Seems like when they purposely locked Ed out of the big categories last year for some reason. I find it pretty hard to believe there is literally 0 pure pop in the AOTY category. Even Post Malone was half hip hop and half pop. It’s weird. I still do see Taylor winning kind of like Ed last year. It was by far the biggest pop album of the period and it is acclaimed to an extent so this seems to be for Taylor but anything can happen.

I’m not convinced Taylor was left out of the GF due to the BRP. I think she just didn’t make it.

There’s no way her album wasn’t in the top 20 for the general field.

Especially when Post Malone, who she beat out for a Pop Album nomination, was.
