I’m feeling Nas here, finally getting his Grammy.

ReplyCopy URLNovember 24, 2020 at 9:14 pm #1203870061Nas deserves it. Not only was Kingโs Disease the best Hip Hop album of the year, It sets a good precedent for the Academy to acknowledge that Hip Hop has evolved past the stereotype of being a โYouths onlyโ genre. Nas, Jay-Z, Common, etc should be getting Grammy nominations well into their 70โs the way Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Ray Charles, and Herbie Hancock did.
Nas, as a 30 year veteran (He debuted at 17) is a perfect example of an artist who has successfully maintained a position at the forefront of the genre, constantly reinventing himself, and representing Hip Hop with dignity and skill. Kingโs Disease also marks a milestone of Nas charting within the top 5 on Billboard in 3 different decades (the first rapper to achieve this)
Its no small fact to state that every one of the other artists nominated in the category owe Nas a huge debt for the inspiration and path heโs paved on their own careers. Nas was rapping poetically about Five Percenter Lingo long before Jay Electronica came on the scene. He was rapping over dusty soul loops long before Freddie Gibbs hooked up with Alchemist. He was spitting lyrical miracle bars over boom bap beats long before Royce Da 5โ9โ. He was speaking on the plight of Black America and all the frustrations that come with being a young black male long before DSmoke.
This should be Nasโs year

I would guess Nas would win, but Iโm pulling for Freddie. I want Nas to win a Grammy, but only one I think he truly deserves. Jay Electronica and D Smoke are tied for third most likely. All in all, these are one of the Grammyโs best rap album contenders. I believe they are gradually getting better.

SHOULD WIN: Nas, King’s Disease

WILL WIN: Nas, King’s DiseaseNovember 25, 2020 at 5:37 am #1203871145Nas or Freddie Gibbs. I’m really cool with both of them.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 25, 2020 at 9:40 am #1203872185Nas deserves to win after his all of his years in the business with little recognition. Heโs the biggest vet and only true legend here. If Nas canโt win in this lineup, then heโs never winning.
Jay Electronica can spoil, but I do remember him getting criticism from fans for his album being dominated by Jay-Z, who can ironically help him in this race.
Name recognition and popularity matter here, and I think Nas will reign supreme. Nas for the win!

I think what keeps Jay Electronica from getting the โJay-Zโ stimulus vote is that his name is NO WHERE on the album, not even as a featured artist. He didnโt even get the Only Built For Cuban Linx โGuest Starringโ type credit. So for those just voting based on name recognition that album doesnโt really benefit.
This SHOULD be Nasโs award to lose by all rights
ReplyCopy URLNovember 26, 2020 at 7:56 pm #1203876411Alfredo is the best album there by some distance and deserves to win. Nas is overdue for a Grammy though, so I think this is a two-horse race between Alfredo and King’s Disease.

If D Smoke wins over Nas then its proof that heโs an industry plant
