It’s okay if Nas wins best rap album but I’m afraid if he ends up losing it to Freddie for example, his fans will drag the winner acting like Freddie is not a deserving winner. Rap community is just like pop fandom, fans will go crazy at some points.

    For you consideration :

Album of the year : folklore
Record of the year : Don't Start Now
Song of the year : cardigan
Best new artist : Phoebe Bridgers

Best pop vocal album : folklore
    Best rap album : Alfredo
Best alternative music album : Fetch the Bolt Cutters
Best progressive R&B album : Ungodly Hour

Nas fans didn’t go “crazy” or drag anyone else when he lost his other 13 nominations. I’m not seeing your point at all.

The only time the rap community has called foul is if someone truly underserving of cultural representation has won. Case in point Macklemore winning over Kendrick Lamar in 2014. That was so egregiously bad that even Macklemore himself apologized for the highway robbery.

Duh fans went crazy when Invasion of Privacy won over Daytona and Atsroworld.

A lot of that was driven by misogyny and Cardi B being seen as not a “real rapper”.

Some fans have too much time on their hands to complain about frivolous BS. If your favorite artist losing a GRAMMY triggers you then you don’t have your priorities straight.

And artists who apologize for winning an award are equally wack. Accept the trophy, be grateful, and shut up.

who went crazy? There was definitely malcontent because Daytona was better than Invasion of Privacy and Cardi utilizes ghostwriters whilst Pusha is a real lyricist but beyond some justifiable twitter outrage I don’t recall this destructive doomsday event that supposedly occurred. Neither Push nor Cardi have a stanbase even remotely approaching the level of “Barbs” for Nicki Minaj, “Beyhive” for Beyonce or “Swifties” for Taylor so again, seems like you just like talking out the side of your neck when it comes to Rap for whatever reason

This Cardi B win has been discussed so much in social media and not only by Nicki fans. I thought Travis Scott will win, but that year (2019) was about women winning awards, after 2018 awards deemed male-dominated. Also, Cardi had multiple hits in her album(two big hits) and at the time it was the most successful female rap album since PinkFriday, today IOP has surpassed PinkFriday and charted more weeks on Billboard.

Cardi deserved her win. People who say she has ghostwriters are haters or jealous Barbz. It’s the same argument some used to discredit Iggy Azalea’s success. As if Iggy & Cardi are spitting like Tupac & Biggie 😂 Stop.

Was it not obvious that Cardi B was winning Rap Album?

Despite the ghostwriting claims, critics went crazy for that album. It had an AOTY nomination and had multiple hits. She was the only female in a male-dominated category. Cardi completely dominated pop culture. This is a recipe for a Grammy Award.

And there didn’t seem to be a consensus on a runner-up. Mac Miller had the sentimental vote. Both Nipsey and Pusha T were the lyrical heavyweights in the lineup that had the passion votes. Travis Scott might have made sense for anyone who wanted to vote against Cardi B, but his popularity was not on the same level.

I don’t have an issue with her win, to be honest. If you ignore all other factors, Invasion of Privacy is strong piece of work. I think any female rapper would get some sort of backlash. I’m pretty sure there were some naysayers against Pink Friday possibly beating out My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. A bunch of Lil Baby and Roddy Ricch fans will trash Megan if she wins a Rap Grammy over them. It’s not just about Cardi or the ghostwriting claims. Misogyny plays a huge part as well.

Megan’s popularity and the year she had will definitely get her at least TWO Gramophones is my prediction. As far the quality of her sings nominated, I mean you CAN’T beat a Beyonce feature and Savage is a pretty good song so I wouldn’t see her winning Best Rap Performance as some great controversy. Where Lil Baby has the best chance solo wise is Best Rap Song for the Bigger Picture, or if the Academy wants to “One Shot Two Kills” it and award both Lil Baby and Roddy Rich then Best Melodic would be a good category for them.

With Cardi, I don’t respect any rapper who utilizes ghostwriters, but the Grammy’s have never been a Hip Hop purists haven (save for this year? Lol)  but knowing how popular the album was I wasn’t surprised in the slightest at the win. Daytona in my opinion was the best album of all the nominees, but its kind of one of those “It is what it is” situations. Nobody is going back to the 2019 Rap categories and citing it as some travesty
