If Rihanna pulls a Pharrell Williams here early in the night (or day, depending on when they announce it) Beyoncé might be in trouble for AOTY again. I’m predicting Lemonade, but it’s a weird situation because it has more support than her self-titled overall, but markedly less in the R&B field.

Both Lenny Beer and Paul Grein are predicting Lemonade as the winner.

Beyoncé has the lead, but Anti and Malibu might sneak in.

This will be the first indication of Beyonce’s support, she is winning here, but if they give it to Anti, it would mean they didn’t digest Lemonade, they had no problem awarding GIRL over Beyoncé in 2015, just because it had one hit song there, “Happy”.

Pharrell Williams had a lot going on in his favor in 2014. Plus, he was also up for AOTY. So, Beyonce losing is understandable. Not this time around though. Rihanna will get her due in Best R&B Performance. In addition, Anti lacks the depth and superstar power that Lemonade has.

Rihanna is predicted to win Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance. She will NOT win here. No one has went 3/3 in the R&B categories recently.

Pharrell, Frank Ocean and Rihanna herself have won Grammys for Urban Contemporary Album without being nominated in R&B Performance and/or R&B Song.

As a matter of fact, Pharrell beat Beyoncé, Frank Ocean beat Miguel and Rihanna beat Fantasia and Tamar Braxton. All of those artists were nominated for R&B Performance and R&B Song.

The trend will continue this year. Beyoncé will win this category, especially since she hasn’t won yet.

Couldn’t have said it better.  If anything Rihanna’s Best Urban Contemporary nomination will help her in Performance and Song.

The thing is AOTY winners rarely ever lose in the genre category. I’m leaning towards Lemonade but I also have a feeling Anti could win. Just base off of the support it has in the R&B Categories (TBH I didn’t expect Kiss It Better to even get a R&B Song nomination let alone a nomination at all). Whereas not one single song off Lemonade was nominated in the R&B categories.
Don’t forget Mumford & Sons won AOTY but lost Americana Album in 2013. Arcade Fire won AOTY but lost Alternative Album in 2011.
