I think Adele can sweep again with another era like 21 or 25. And Beyoncé will keep getting nominated and winning, but AOTY now I only see her winning with an extremely safe album, with fewer credits and years from now. Like what else can she do?
It’s not like getting another era like 21 or 25 will be easy for Adele though.
I don’t see either winning AOTY in the future. I also think the urgency around rewarding Beyoncé is largely gone now that she’s the most awarded person ever at the Grammys.

February 7, 2023 at 5:56 pm #1205296756Beyonce and Adele will both be nominee fixtures for years to come but sadly and rather revoltingly Beyonce will NEVER win AOTY. It was all set up for her last Sunday to take it home. You could literally see everyone seated prepared to hear her name and the absolute shock on Harry’s face was something you simply CAN’T fake. There will never again come a more opportune time.
I can see Adele getting another General Field win in SOTY or ROTY but maybe not AOTY.
I doubt Beyonce shows up to another Grammys telecast. Not even on some anger or bitterness type energy. But after becoming the most awarded person in Grammys history and realizing she has no chances for AOTY there’s really no point for her beyond receiving an inevitable lifetime achievement award 20 years from now
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 7, 2023 at 7:22 pm #1205296817I can see WHY Beyoncé doesn’t win AOTY, besides the obvious reasons. I think she has low-key haters, and it’s probably because people are sort of forced to think Beyoncé has to win everything. The constant overpraise from Adele to Lizzo (like what does Beyoncé have to do with you winning ROTY? NOTHING!) is probably a turn-off for most voters.
In reality, an artist with over 30 Grammys cannot possibly be “done wrong,” especially when you have a living legend, such as Diana Ross, who still wasn’t able to get her first competitive Grammy win after 60 years. Beyoncé being the most awarded artist ever easily trumps one AOTY win.

I can see how off-putting the constant hype and praise Beyoncé gets no matter what she does can play into her hot winning AOTY. I was SO tired of Trevor constantly talking about her all night…how much did Jay-Z pay you bro like damn!
I loved loved Lizzo’s speech up until she too had to bring Beyoncé up…girl this is YOUR moment not another unnecessary let’s praise Bey again moment…
I really do wish people will get off the AOTY thing, did y’all literally forget that she is not THE MOST awarded artist in the history of Grammys?!? Celebrate that instead of what she doesn’t have, sheesh!
The beyhive really played themselves into thinking she was going to win AOTY this time with all the writing on the wall and how things played out on the decision of what awards were being presented on telecast…but eh whatever!February 7, 2023 at 7:52 pm #1205296833Don’t see Adele sweeping again. This go round showed fatigue in a way that even I wasn’t expecting and showed she can indeed…lose big and hard. She can win the GF again but it should finally end the “she’s unstoppable” noise for a while.
Beyonce won’t win until she makes more universal, safer music or just old. Or they just don’t see her overdue considering she has the most wins. Though, I don’t know why there are those pushing or projecting that she shouldn’t/won’t submit. Unlike an ambivalent Frank Ocean, a scorned Abel or a whiny (?) Drake, she takes Grammys quite seriously and loves what they are supposed to represent. Hell, she posted about her wins in gratitude.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 7, 2023 at 8:23 pm #1205296843That’s the producers doing propping up Beyoncé like that. Trevor Noah running his damn mouth about the record was just to goose the audience up and lessen the blow of what was to come later. Now we know without a doubt that producers know exactly who’s winning as results for the pre- and main shows. It wasn’t in her control or Jay-Z’s. Lizzo’s words actually took a bit of the sting out of Beyoncé’s AOTY loss. The room knew who should have won, even if shitty Grammy voters didn’t or wouldn’t. Both Adele and Beyoncé will be just fine moving forward. I don’t see Adele sweeping again, which is cool. She still has many future wins ahead of her. I’d say the same thing for Beyoncé, but breaking the winners record will probably lessen the urgency of ever giving her AOTY, beyond the racism and sexism, or not until she does her own version of “Genius Loves Company” or “The Joni Letters” in her senior years. I don’t think Beyoncé needs to slavishly attend just to boost the show’s ratings in the future either. Don’t give them that honor anymore. Keep submitting to increase those record totals and then watch from home in her pajamas.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 7, 2023 at 8:48 pm #1205296864Adele needs to pull a Folklore if she wants to win aoty again. Total change of sound and direction. I doubt she cares, though.
Beyonce needs an album that the white Boomer voters find listenable. Pop/rock with jazz/funk/soul elements, limited explicit language. She’s unlikely to pander to that, however.

One, EVERYBODY knows Lizzo is a Beyoncé stan (that is Lizzo’s word choice). Including Beyoncé, as you could tell from her face.
Prince didn’t have anything to do with her ROTY win either, but she still thanked him first, for being an influence and an inspiration. She did the same with Beyoncé because she was actually alive and present, and she FINALLY got to tell her what she meant to her.
But we all know people hate when Beyoncé is praised for any reason. Two, it is irrelevant how many Grammys total she or anyone has if they or rather their work (because it is supposed to be the work being awarded) are losing awards people know full well they deserve to works they know fully well do NOT. The Grammys are not particpation trophies so the whole “spread the wealth” thing is weird. The fact that these awards are entertainment-based/celebrity-related and marked with a trophy detracts from what they really are supposed to be: a mark of achievement and excellence in the music industry, because this is still a JOB.
It’s like someone getting constantly passed over for a promotion or a bonus that all their co-workers, again, know full well they deserve.
February 7, 2023 at 9:04 pm #1205296889Keep dreaming! Beyoncé will continue to attend the Grammys as long as her team gets a call from producers that she broke a record.

She needs an album with no sampling and very limited number of songwriters and producers.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 7, 2023 at 11:09 pm #1205296947Honey, it does NOT matter if Beyoncé does a full-blown pop album, a rock-inspired album, no sampling, or limited songwriters and producers. The problem is the voting membership. Until the academy gets rid of racist old white voters, Bey (and Kendrick Lamar) will never win Album of the Year.

This isn’t the case or Jon Batiste would not have won last year and Lizzo wouldn’t have won ROTY. It’s the type of music these white boomers find listenable, not who’s singing it. About Damn Time is pure pop and Batiste’s album jazz/funk.
ReplyCopy URLFebruary 8, 2023 at 2:19 am #1205297016Beyoncé would have to do another I..Am Sasha Fierce lol. Her most safest and pop-iest album. Single Ladies and Halo appealed to any type of voter. The album was ballad heavy with a mix of upbeat tracks. She was able to snag Pop & R&B wins along with SOTY. The Adele unstoppable era is most likely over. She swept the GF twice & I think that’s all she needs but at least she still has the most wins in Pop Solo Performance. I think Adele doesn’t care to sweep anymore either, the whole night she was happy other people were winning.

They’re also viewed as musicians too. They definitely have a personal taste of an ideal artist that they like. Jon Batiste had the upper hand with multiple genres helping him.
