Adele could do a Bonnie Raitt and keeping winning awards later in her career.
One of those secret ballot voters said EOM was good but it was no Rolling In The Deep. In fact I think it’s well down the list of her best songs so it’s not really surprising it didn’t win the big categories.
It’s strange that people want her to do something ‘different’ when her album are full of songs that are not typical Adele ballads. When it came out people were complaining that it wasn’t like the ‘old’ Adele and they missed songs like Set Fire To The Rain. So it’s a tight rope to walk, you have to give people something ‘new’ while keeping old fans happy. The worst thing she could do is worry about Grammy voters and catering to them and not just putting out the work she wants to.

Beyoncé will probably reach 40 Grammys by the end of this decade. That’s insane! She’ll hold that record for a very long time. Who could even catch up to her?

I can see WHY Beyoncé doesn’t win AOTY, besides the obvious reasons. I think she has low-key haters, and it’s probably because people are sort of forced to think Beyoncé has to win everything. The constant overpraise from Adele to Lizzo (like what does Beyoncé have to do with you winning ROTY? NOTHING!) is probably a turn-off for most voters. In reality, an artist with over 30 Grammys cannot possibly be “done wrong,” especially when you have a living legend, such as Diana Ross, who still wasn’t able to get her first competitive Grammy win after 60 years. Beyoncé being the most awarded artist ever easily trumps one AOTY win.

Lizzo literally explained IN her speech what Beyonce had to do with it. Beyonce is her idol. Just like Michael Jackson took time to thank Jackie Wilson the night HE won AOTY. Just like Kendrick Lamar thanked Nas and Snoop Dogg the night HE first won Best Rap Album. And so on and so forth throughout the greater HISTORY of the Grammys and popular award shows.

the fact thats so many people seem to have a problem with a BLACK WOMAN being so publicly respected and admired in her field speaks volumes about the ingrained racism that continues to permeate both the Grammys and the recording industry at large

I don’t really have a problem with Lizzo praising Beyoncé, but I also feel that the overpraise could possibly turn off voters because there’s this growing sentiment amongst a certain group of people that you HAVE to like everything Beyoncé does. Like I said, while she might be beloved amongst a lot of groups, she probably has people who probably think she’s overrated. And I wish y’all would stop bringing up race when it comes to every Beyoncé critique. That’s why she continues to lose the major categories.

What is even bizarre about this “Adele should do something different” claims is that EOM was the closest of her previous work in 30 and yet it was considered the biggest consensus to win smth (even from people who didn’t like her). It ultimately just relied on how people only wanted her to break every sales record forever to be considered worthy rather than enjoying her music.

Honey, I know this will NOT ever happen since voters have a hard-on for Beyoncé; voters need to cool it on Bey.  She has at least 20 undeserved Grammys.  Mary J. Blige should’ve won Best Traditional R&B Performance and Jazmine Sullivan should’ve won Best R&B Song.

Doubtful Adele sweeps ever again but she’ll still win Grammys here and there.

Beyoncé will continue to surpass her record every year she’s in contention so there’s that.

Kinda crazy how in film and tv awards if people gush over you and constantly praise you in their own speeches it can be a sign of things to come for you in the top prize, but for music, we’ll never know if Beyoncé will ever take AOTY until she does. Shows how petty Grammy voters can be.

Beyoncé would have to do another I..Am Sasha Fierce lol. Her most safest and pop-iest album. Single Ladies and Halo appealed to any type of voter. The album was ballad heavy with a mix of upbeat tracks. She was able to snag Pop & R&B wins along with SOTY. The Adele unstoppable era is most likely over. She swept the GF twice & I think that’s all she needs but at least she still has the most wins in Pop Solo Performance. I think Adele doesn’t care to sweep anymore either, the whole night she was happy other people were winning.

    100&

If Beyoncé released IASF in the 2020s she would’ve swept imo, but she’s over that sound and that’s fine. She doesn’t have to cater to Grammy voters.

I don’t see why Lizzo thanking her for inspiring her was a problem. Lizzo is a 34 year old black woman from Detroit. How can anyone doubt that she grew up worshipping the ground Beyoncè walked on? Imagine winning a HUGE award in front of your ultimate idol, while your ultimate idol was nominated alongside you and is sitting a few feet away from you. She just spoke from the heart. She didn’t say “you deserve my award” she just said she was inspired, let her live, dammit.

The person I genuinely side eye with her “oh my god Beyoncé” is Adele, it feels like pandering. She keeps saying she’s a stan and Beyoncé deserves to win and she also keeps submitting her albums against hers. Put your money where your mouth is, Ms. Adkins.

Y’all really expected ADELE not to submit her most personal and best work to the GRAMMYs.

Beyoncé is always going to be a favorite in the R&B Field. It’s been like that since 2004. It’s been instances where the R&B panel has been shady to her but since they’re eliminated, she’s definitely a threat there anytime she’s nominated. Muni Long gave it to her good in R&B Performance. I’m surprised she didn’t tie with Beyoncé.

I feel like they will both win again. I just think they tried to rely to much on their name instead of actually doing more promotion. Adele only had  two singles released and a special in the US and one for the UK then was silent until she had her Vegas show ready months later (which is something everyone cannot go see). For 21 and 25 there was at least four singles that charted on multiple formats within 2011-2012 and 2015-2017.  Her hype ended so quickly and a lot thought it will be enough to push her through but it wasn’t, especially when it was released very early.
Same with Beyonce she did way less promotion and relied completely on her name. The most she gave was a gif visual for BMS and then a trailer for future videos. No live performances, no interviews just minding her business and letting the music speak for itself.
Are they big enough artist to do that? Yes, because their albums still sold well, had two top ten hits and they both received wins from them. But the lack of promotion didn’t help to translate to the general field where some voters may need a little more to show off their albums. I do think they still have wins in their future they just got add a little more for the general public that doesn’t get it right away.

the biggest reason I have always seen about why people don’t like Beyonce has been that they think she’s overrated. Then you ask the reason it’s because people worship and praise her in such a different way compared to other artist especially her fans and peers. She’s the popular girl that not liked by others because she’s so popular. And I can see why people would be turned off by that. Beyonce is a very talented artist who has it all; vocals, stage presence, versatility, creativity you name it. So when all you hear is praise from other people just because “its Beyonce period” It’s easy to become a hater. Not to mention she always stay winning in some way or another. People found it amazing at the fact she was there and was losing their minds when she was late. Even though the love overpowers the hate, the hate still affect things.

didn’t Adele say she’d be focusing on family and relationships? By her own admission she doesn’t love the work that goes into putting out an album. She’ll have a break, a pretty long one, I think.

This is a dumb thing to say. That would be extremely arrogant of her. No one has to stop submitting their own works, it’s not the artists who have to be charged.

My 3 favorite artists of all time are Beyonce, Gaga and Britney, and the only one of the three my close friends and family harp on me over is Beyonce, because they think she is overrated and don’t like how she seems to be put on a completely different level than the rest of celebrities. My mom particularly thinks it is rude of Beyonce to expect fan support so implicitly but then doing no promotion. I mean it is evident that Beyonce can get away with it but my mom argued to me that is part of an artists responsibility to provide their fans with content, yes they deserve their own lives of course, but it’s different thinking you can ignore your fans who continue your public recognition. I have heard much of the Beyhive complain about Beyonce’s lack of content this era, as even the Lemonade era had music videos and high profile performances (Grammys, VMA’s, Superbowl), I mean obviously it works for Beyonce as they are all buying her concert tickets (me as well) but I understand the argument.

Beyoncé could win AOTY a year when nobody expect this. Some tradicional record with few credits could upset over several mainstream pop albums. With something like Love For Sale or traditional r&b. She will never win if everytime press and fans say she HAS to win because she’s Beyoncé and she has 90 on metacritic. Grammy voters hate this narrative.
