I had an idea for a kind of awards retrospective for artists. In hindsight, what did they lose that the should have won? What did they win that they should have lost? Not just Grammys, but Oscars, Emmys, VMAs, whatever they’ve been in consideration/nominated for where you think things should’ve ended up differently. So I thought I’d start with an artist whose awards outcomes I’ve heard people might have some opinions about maybe: Beyonce.
All hot takes welcome, as salty as you like about awards, but please be respectful of each other 🙂February 19, 2020 at 8:55 pm #1203353108
She should’ve won AOTY for Lemonade.February 19, 2020 at 9:03 pm #1203353113This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.February 19, 2020 at 9:41 pm #1203353149
4 missing r&b album was the prelude to all of her losses later, I mean look at what they ended up nominating that yearFebruary 19, 2020 at 10:32 pm #1203353183
Given her well executed submissions, I’m shocked she wasn’t nominated for more Grammys in 2012 for the 4 era.
Album of the Year – 4
Album of the Year – Watch the Throne
Record of the Year – “I Was Here”
Song of the Year “I Was Here” (written by Diane Warren)
Best Pop Solo – “Best Thing I Never Had”
Best R&B Album – 4
Traditional R&B Performance – “1+1”
Best R&B Solo – “Countdown”
Best R&B Song – “1+1”
Best Rap/Sung – “Party”
Best Short Form Music Video – “Run the World (Girls)”
Best Long Form Music Video – I Am… World Tour
In retrospect it really makes no sense that she never got R&B Album, Solo, Traditional & Music VideoFebruary 19, 2020 at 11:46 pm #1203353231
She wasn’t even nominated for R&B Album for 4. Guess who won that year: Chris Brown. F***ing Chris Brown. If I were in charge, Beyonce would’ve won that award in a landslide. Also, she should have an Oscar nomination by now.February 19, 2020 at 11:49 pm #1203353236
There’s nothing that she won that she should’ve lost.
But she should have won the following:

- Grammy Urban Contemporary for “BEYONCE”
- Grammy R&B Album for “4”

- Emmy Direction Variety Special for “Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé”

- Emmy Music Direction for “Homecoming: A Film By Beyoncé”
- Oscar Original Song for “Listen” (a dumb stupid rule!)
Also, she should have an Oscar nomination by now.
Part of me wonders, if Halle Berry didn’t for Monster’s Ball that they’re would’ve been a more effort to get a non-white actress to win Best Actress. In this reality I think she upsets Meryl for the Golden Globe and it’s nominated for Best Actress.February 20, 2020 at 2:06 am #1203353302

she doesn’t have the performance, and if the academy didn’t mind waiting 74 years to reward a colored woman they surely won’t mind waiting for another 5, plus that particular year’s nominees (mirren, streep, dench, cruz, winslet) were too strong for her to have a shot at getting nominatedFebruary 20, 2020 at 4:57 am #1203353347This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.February 20, 2020 at 8:10 am #1203353621
Critics Choice Original Song for “Listen”
Critics Choice Original Song for “SPIRIT”
Also… they should just revive the Grammy Legend Award and give it to her… ’cause that’s what she is!
She is overrated as f*ck. She doesn’t even write her music…

I honestly think that she deserved most of her Grammy Awards. I do think however, Jazmine Sullivan should have won Best Female R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for Lions, Tigers, and Bears (Beyoncé won for Single Ladies). Single Ladies would have made a great winner for Best Music Video instead.February 20, 2020 at 2:41 pm #1203354208
Should’ve won: Urban Contemporary for Self Titled Should’ve lost: Urban Contemporary for Everything Is Love For the most part, her 20+ wins are well deserved.
Agreed that the win for Everything is Love is probably her worst.
The fact is that after letting Jay go 0 for 8 the previous year the panel felt like they needed to give The Carters something and deliberately stacked the category in their favor. I mean, Janelle Monae had been nominated for all her previous albums but is then suddenly snubbed the year she breaks into the general field? That’s no coincidence.
