Netflix has become a destination for television visionaries like Shonda Rhimes and Ryan Murphy, with deals worth $100 million and $250 million, respectively, and top comedians like Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle ($40 million and $60 million, respectively). The streaming giant, which just announced it’s added nearly 10 million subscribers in Q1, is honing in on music, too, landing a three-project deal with Beyonce worth a whopping $60 million, sources tell Variety.

The first of the three specials is “Homecoming,” the behind-the-scenes documentary chronicling her 2018 Coachella performance —  a massive spectacle of dance, visuals and music that reaffirmed Beyonce’s moniker of Queen Bey — which premiered on April 17. The price tag on this installment, for which Beyonce Knowles-Carter is credited as executive producer, writer and director, hovers around $20 million. Beyonce’s rep did not respond to Variety’s requests for comment; Netflix declined comment for this story, although a source at the company disputed the financial terms of the deal.

Frontrunner for Best Music Film in my opinion. Other than that I don’t see any other nominations.

I think the 97 score is a bit exaggerated, like Everything Is Love’s score.

Her two best albums are still self-titled and Lemonade.

Before I Let Go could possibly get some love. If it goes anywhere on Radio.
Sounds like something the RnB panel could like.

If anyone can get a live album into AOTY, it’s Beyoncé.

I wonder if she can win an Emmy with this.

They have always been reluctant to give Emmys to concert documentaries, but it may change with Homecoming.

“Lemonade” made a much bigger impact and lost all of its nominations. “Homecoming” will more than likely do the same.

Honey, this year is extremely shitty. Beyoncé can easily score an Album of the Year nomination and/or win.  It would be a make-up award a la Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock, Beck, etc.

Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock, and Beck all won for studio albums. They also play multiple instruments, write their own songs, and sing live.

No disrespect to Beyoncé because she’s an incredible performer. But her artistry is not comparable to their musical talents. Which is why she’s lost AOTY 3 times to singer/songwriters.

The only way Beyoncé will win AOTY is if it’s a full blown Pop album like Sasha Fierce. That was the closest she came to winning until Kanye interrupted Taylor’s VMA speech. Then the narrative switched.

Homecoming’s best shot is in the Music Film category. Even a Traditional R&B Performance win. But AOTY? It won’t happen. It’s not nice to get people’s hopes up.

I don’t think she’ll win (for now) but if the year continues to be bad and this weak, it’s not impossible for her to score an AOTY nod for this. It’s massively acclaimed and it would be a way to recognize both Self-Titled and Lemonade.

She can’t win. Give it up. You tried convincing us that Everything’s Love was more likely to be nominated than Black Panther last year. How did that turn out?

The committee will only nominate Beyoncé if she can win. Her losing repeatedly is an embarrassment for them.
