This is a complete bomb. Sweetener, a 2018 album, and Chromatica both outstreamed. She is coming off one of the biggest albums of all time. These numbers are VERY underwhelming.
Yesterday, someone on atrl did a thread for predicting HTE’s first day streams. The lowest option was 40 million and the general consensus was she’d do 50m. Saying these numbers are expected is completely false.
She’s still gonna win AOTY if Silk Sonic don’t drop but wow. What a complete bomb.

True but she has huge acclaim. 80+ metascore is easy to get nowadays but 90+ is not.

She has a smash ep and album already. It is ok if this underperforms. She will be back next album.July 31, 2021 at 7:43 am #1204373262How the fuck are people claiming these numbers are ‘expected’ or ‘good?’ This is a complete bomb. Lets not get ahead of our selves. 1 year since My Future(exactly one year ago) all her singles didn’t have success (apart TIA), this debut is no shocking at all, The same way Positions failed to match Thank You Next first day on Spotify (despite Ariana having multiple streaming artists featured).

Not sure why you’re bringing up Positions when it did 23m more than Happier Than Ever.
This debut is actually shocking and I’m really not sure why anyone is trying to deny it. Go look up any prediction threads for it on atrl, popheads, twitter or even here. No one had it THIS low

July 31, 2021 at 7:55 am #1204373273She had a huge waiting time between announcement and album drop. The singles tanked and the smashiest single tia was old had run its course so could not generate enough hype. I am expecting some album tracks like hte and oxytocin to be sleeper hits.

I can see Red tv flopping similarly because a) too many taylor albums in past 2 years b) very long wait between announcement and drop without a smash single kills the hype.July 31, 2021 at 7:57 am #1204373278This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.July 31, 2021 at 8:03 am #1204373283Well, not everyone can pull a Taylor. People usually don’t tune in for albums unless there’s a smash hit on the charts or a strong narrative. And Billie lacked both this time.
These numbers aren’t terrible actually but they’re definitely a huge underperformance from the album she’s coming off and the promo they put in this time. It is indeed very disappointing but let’s see how well it holds up. I still have some hope for the title track.
She’ll do around 80K streaming units.

Positions did 11m less than TUN first day, despite the fact Positions had MULTIPLE features (The Weeknd, Doja Cat etc), while TUN was a solo 11 track album. Maybe you thought Billie would pull a Taylor debut ala Folklore. She did 10m less first day than her previous album, after many songs didn’t have any commercial success (Your Power, Lost Cause and NDA). These huge debut artist eras like Billie or Lorde, you don’t know how they play out on their sophomore.

I actually expected Billie to be able to outstream Sweetener and Chromatica. Especially considering she’s coming off the biggest female spotify album ever. I genuinely have no idea why this is such a controversial opinion.

July 31, 2021 at 9:35 am #1204373415calling 35 million a bomb is sound off. She did underperform, but again 35 million? That’s a huge number no matter how y’all sell that.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 31, 2021 at 9:37 am #1204373426Billie’s debut was absolutely massive, there was no way she was going to replicate that success, especially with an album that sounds as experimental as HTE. If the rollout wasn’t so messy she could get better results for sure, but she’ll be fine anyway.
