I mean, this forum is full of toxic people, i stated that yesterday when they came after i wanted different people to win at GF. 35m is not a bomb but disappointing, i expected somewhere in 50m. I hope Billie makes a stable hit.
Yeah, it’s definitely a disappointment. I was predicting 40-45M but honestly, I thought I was slightly underestimating because I fully expected her to do 50M+
But anyway, this isn’t the end of her career or whatever is being implied by some people here. The reviews are amazing. She just needs a streaming hit and she’ll be fine.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 31, 2021 at 10:59 am #1204373577Positions/any Ariana album is not comparable to Billie. Billies songs are usually streaming poison because of pace. Without an active hit these numbers are expected. Ari keeps songs 2 minutes long because of streaming plus her writing team makes trap infused pop which will obviously do better. Plus Folkmore and Positions all benefited from a shorter roll out hence much better first day numbers.
Go look at the streams of each track from Billie’s debut EP and debut album and then say if her songs are “streaming poison”. There’s no excusing these terrible initial numbers for her especially when her debut album from only 2 years ago is the most streamed female album ever (not counting Dua Lipa’s compilation album). We’ll see if she has longevity like she did with her debut but it doesn’t seem likely. And those myths about shorter songs, trap infused pop, and shorter rollouts doing better on streaming are baseless excuses.

They are not myths. Artists have admitted to making short tracks because attention span is short and in era of streaming short tracks get more streams. It is a fact. Just because Billie managed to be the anomaly and see massive success with slow songs doesn’t mean they always work.

Hip hop/r&b are the most consumed genres in Us and pop in Europe.
These numbers are really great for an artist who is making alt pop music in the same vein as Lana Del Rey. People think this is bad because she set the standard too high with her debut. But compare consumption for artists making similar music and Billie ranks high.July 31, 2021 at 11:21 am #1204373602Terrible singles choice is what caused this slump. She had all the hype when she debuted blonde hair and did the vogue cover but followed up with Lost Cause and Your Power. My future and NDA didn’t do her any favor either. If only she had dropped the album then.
The album is good and critically acclaimed. Though, I prefer WDWG because it had more relay value.

‘Happier Than Ever didn’t bomb; the album tracks just underperformed and she couldn’t get any hits out of the first 5 singles!’ is not the ironclad defense you think it is.

July 31, 2021 at 1:21 pm #1204373792I’m sure the physical unit sells will be good. The Album is not “flopping” but as others on here have said, bad singles choices have hurt it.

Honey, tour bundles made up 1/3 of her previous album debut(300k) that are now not allowed.

Pitchfork needs to come through with a good score. Finneas and Billie are on a roll. Now I see her possibly winning aoty too.
I’m not sure if this is going to have a “better score than Melodrama” which started around 93, dropped to 92 in the next week and finally dropped back to 91 almost a month after release date and more than 30 reviews. Melodrama is also at 91 on albumoftheyear.org. Even if Billie can match the score, it might not help her at the Grammys. There are a lot of 90+ albums with no wins.
However she is a Grammy favourite and that’s the most important thing.
ReplyCopy URLJuly 31, 2021 at 7:19 pm #1204374454She shouldn’t release too much songs prior to album release. It kills the hype/excitement and decrease the element of surprise.
