Run the JewelsMarch 31, 2021 at 7:19 pm #1204168517Miley Cyrus did super good in the UK last year
Yep! As did Billie, so I don’t know why anyone is surprised by her nomination. She was the best selling international female last year.

Eligibility dictates that you aren’t allowed to compete without releasing an album during the eligibility period which explains why Billie’s nom was surprising.

They have updated the rules – artists didn’t need to release an album in the eligibility period this year.

Billie was all over the IFPI lists last year too (in both the sales and overall consumption chart) so that’s no surprise either
ReplyCopy URLApril 1, 2021 at 12:16 am #1204168718I see this being Taylor’s award to lose. 2 big albums, general acclaim and she’s coming off of a huge Grammys high. I expect this to go to her. Ariana is the only one I could see upsetting her win but positions wasn’t close to folklore in success or acclaim and success wise is more on par with evermore Taylor’s weaker sister album but is still leagues behind both acclaim wise. Miley could also upset but I doubt it as she isn’t as established in the UK as the previous two women I talked about. Billie upsetting would be disappointing. I don’t see how 3 singles (sub-par/average singles at best) could net you an award of this size. Same for Cardi.

It’s the highest award in British music industry, like the Grammys in American music industry and ARIA in Australian music industry

Oh I didn’t know they changed the rules. Well, then I can say that Billie completely deserved her nod. WWAFA,WDWG held up incredibly well in the UK (4th on the Year End album chart despite its early 2019 release), and she had 3 top 3 singles during the eligibility period.
Still can’t understand Cardi’s nomination though. Up wasn’t even succesful in the UK. If they wanted to reward WAP’s success Megan would have been a better choice since she released an acclaimed album and also had Savage, which was another massive hit.
