It’s odd because the Song/Single of the Year is compiled from the 10 biggest songs in the UK (chart-wise) from 1 artist each (unless it’s a feature like double Dua – One Kiss & IDGAF – in 2019).
And since streaming was introduced in 2014, only 7% of the overall nominees were released post-July (2015 – Uptown Funk & Thinking Out Loud; 2016 – Hello; 2017 – Shout Out to My Ex & Say You Won’t Let Go).
Using the OfficialCharts Top 40 Year End so far, taking away the 2018 holdovers & the multiples from Dua, Lewis & Harry. The nomination slate would look like
• Dua Lipa – Don’t Start Now
• Lewis Capaldi – Before You Now
• Stormzy (feat. Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy) – Own It
• Joel Corry – Lonely
• Harry Styles – Adore You
• Becky Hill (feat. Shift K3Y) – Better Off Without You
• Aitch & AJ Tracey (feat. Tay Keith) – Rain
• S1mba (feat. DTG) – Rover
• Endor – Pump It Up
Lonely & Adore You look like they will be replaced by Head & Heart and Watermelon Sugar giving as they’re shaping up to be bigger hits.
The only current top 40 hit on the charts right that I can see being a big at the end of the year is West Ten from AJ Tracey & Mabel.August 1, 2020 at 7:16 am #1203620336

can see dua winning 3 awards tbh (best album, best single, best female). best single could also likely go to harry styles thoughAugust 3, 2020 at 10:35 am #1203623722This post was found to be inappropriate by the moderators and has been removed.August 3, 2020 at 3:30 pm #1203624989
I think they’ll give best Single to Harry since he isn’t eligible for Album or Male, and they’ll want to reward him for the big year he had. Dua will win Female and Album without any doubt.
i was going to say that but i wasn’t 100% sure how the brits work and if it would be possible for them to ensure harry gets somethingAugust 24, 2020 at 8:21 pm #1203665789
Why wouldn’t he be eligible?
He was nominated last ceremony for Best British Male Artist and British Album of The Year. He lost in both categories.
He’s not eligible because he hasn’t released an album during this year’s eligibility period, not because he was already nominated last year.August 25, 2020 at 9:03 am #1203666580
Dua Lipa is luckily having the biggest album of 2020 in UK. It is approaching 200,000 units in UK. One would expect her to get the Album of the year and the song of the year luckily.August 25, 2020 at 10:33 am #1203666751
I think Laura Narling and Dua Lipa will match up for British Female.
Album of the Year:
Song for our Daughter
Notes on a Conditional Form
I think we’ll get the other 2 nominees in the Fall.August 25, 2020 at 3:53 pm #1203667442
is future nostalgia easily winning AOTY as of now? what could beat it? i’m not so familiar with brits patterns and tendenciesAugust 25, 2020 at 4:21 pm #1203667537
I just took a look to the British Female winners in the last few years. They usually go with the biggest/most famous artist of the year, they choose indie artists if big names are missing. Dua had a huge year and the best selling album, and she already beat Marling in 2018 so she’ll easily take this one.
As for AOTY, I don’t know. This year Capaldi (luckliy) lost despite having the biggest album of the year so idk. I still believe Dua will win since the competition is not really strong so far.
I believe they’ll give British Single to Harry since he is not eligible for Male and Album so this is the only place to award him. They did that also with One Direction once (What Makes You Beautiful won againist Someone Like You…. A TRAGEDY).August 26, 2020 at 6:14 pm #1203669274
Dua has Female Solo Artist on her hand at this point. There’s no competition.
I’m expecting her to win Album of the Year as well: Future Nostalgia was acclaimed by British media, she has support, she’ll surely campaign and it’s the best-selling female album of the year in UK – it’s been years since a woman doesn’t win. The Mercury Prize shortlist may help also.
As for International Male and Female, The Weeknd and Taylor Swift are the most obvious choices, for now.
“Blinding Lights” is the best-selling single of the year in UK and folklore spent three weeks at the top – her first multi-week #1 album so far and the only album by a non-British act to achieve it this year. Not now
