Haven’t seen a thread yet for the BRITs 2022 and predictions, so I thought why not go ahead and make one (as a British person myself)!

I’m not sure what the eligibility period is, and I don’t know if it’ll take place in February like normal or if it may shift permanently as the 2021 ceremony was in May. But I’m certain it begins in February 2021, since Arlo Parks’ debut album was nominated for AOTY in 2021 & that came out on 29 January.

Not many major artists have dropped so far, but there’s still a while to go in the eligibility period. Feel free to discuss your predictions for nominations here!

Based on everything that has dropped so far this year, here are some of my early contenders for potential nominations…

    British Album of the Year:
We’re All Alone In This Together – Dave (will be very shocked if this doesn’t get a nomination)
Life By Misadventure – Rag’n’ Bone Man (almost certainly will be in the running)
    Evering Road – Tom Grennan
Music of the Spheres – Coldplay
    Therapy – Anne-Marie
    Flu Game – AJ Tracey
Subtract – Ed Sheeran (expected to drop by end of 2021)
TBA – Mabel (expected to drop by end of 2021)

    British Single of the Year:
    Bad Habits – Ed Sheeran
    Clash – Dave ft. Stormzy
    Our Song – Anne-Marie & Niall Horan
Let’s Go Home Together – Ella Henderson & Tom Grennan
By Your Side – Calvin Harris ft. Tom Grennan
Heartbreak Anthem – Galantis, David Guetta & Little Mix
    Higher Power – Coldplay
Little More Love – AJ Tracey
    Let Them Know – Mabel
Bed – Joel Corry, Raye & David Guetta
Anywhere Away From Here – Rag’n’ Bone Man & Pink
Body – Tion Wayne & Russ Millions

British Male Artist of the Year:
    Ed Sheeran
    Dave
    AJ Tracey
    Rag’n’ Bone Man
    Tom Grennan

British Female Artist of the Year:
    Anne-Marie
    Dua Lipa
    Mabel
    Raye
    Jessie Ware
    Mahalia

    British Group of the Year:
    Coldplay
    Little Mix

British Breakthrough Artist of the Year:
    Tom Grennan
    Mimi Webb
    ArrDee
    Central Cee

    Rising Star:
    Bree Runway
    Ms Banks

International Male Artist of the Year:
    Tyler, The Creator
    Kanye West
    Drake
    Justin Bieber
    Chris Stapleton

International Female Artist of the Year:
    Olivia Rodrigo
    Billie Eilish
    Lorde
    Lana Del Rey
    Pink
    Doja Cat
    Ariana Grande
    Halsey

    International Group of the Year:
    BTS
    Silk Sonic
    Foo Fighters
    Maneskin

    Global Icon Award:
Not sure where this could go, I’d say Dua Lipa or Harry Styles are well deserved winners? But then again Taylor won last year which was unexpected, so it could be an American artist.

Also, if the rumours are true that Adele is finally coming – it’s pretty clear who will be potentially walking away with 3 awards!

Completely forgot about Jorja’s successful project, can definitely see her getting a nomination for British Female.

Yes, I can see that. Both went #1 and got critical acclaim. The only thing that could potentially upset that I can think of is an Adele album.

Although Ed’s album is expected to drop this year, I’m not sure how it will do in terms of being a potential frontrunner. Bad Habits hasn’t been as good as his previous lead singles, but we shall see.

I’m going to assume, based on the long lists, that British Male is between Ed & Rag’n’Bone Man.

Most likely. Dave might stand a chance too since his album got critical acclaim & he’s won Album of the Year before.

If I had to pick the frontrunners now based on what’s been released so far, I’d say:

British Male – Rag’n’Bone Man / Ed Sheeran / Dave
    British Female – Anne-Marie / Jorja Smith
British Group – Coldplay / Little Mix
British Breakthrough – Tom Grennan / Mimi Webb
International Male – Tyler, The Creator / Justin Bieber
International Female – Olivia Rodrigo / Billie Eilish / Doja Cat
    International Group – Foo Fighters
British Album – We’re All Alone In This Together / Life By Misadventure
British Single – Bed / Anywhere Away From Here / Bad Habits / Body / Let’s Go Home Together

Although, this will almost definitely change by the time the end of eligibility period comes around.

Wolf Alice deserve Album of the Year. Visions of a Life not even getting nominated last time was plain stupid.

Are Foo Fighters eligibles? They were nominated this year.

They should be, the nomination this year benefited from the extended eligibility period (December 13 2019 to February 28 2021).

Assuming the 2022 ceremony will be using the 2021 calendar year for eligibility, they should still be eligible for either Medicine to Midnight or the Hail Satin side project.

With Wolf Alice, London Grammar and CHVRCHES all releasing very well received albums, maybe this is the year Best British Group is led by female fronted groups for once?

And with incumbent winners Little Mix are releasing a Greatest Hits in November (with five new tracks), we could see 4/5 women led lineup in Group.
