With Wolf Alice, London Grammar and CHVRCHES all releasing very well received albums, maybe this is the year Best British Group is led by female fronted groups for once?

Would be very interesting if we had at least 3 females in Best Group for sure.

Ed Sheeran & Dave’s albums will almost definitely get into British Album of the Year.

If Adele does indeed finally drop her album by the end of the year, then we’re looking at a competitive race for British Album with Adele v Ed v Dave. All previous winners.

I’d say if Adele does release this year then the race is over. She takes it.

I’ve been thinking about whether the BRITs will ditch the gendered prizes this year.

There’s been questions around it for the last year or so and that’s likely to only build.

Is it fairer to scrap the 6 British and International Solo Artist/Group categories and instead have six nominees per category based on music genre?

    Best Pop Act
    Best Dance/Electronic Act
    Best R&B/Soul Act
    Best Grime/Hip-Hop/Rap Act
    Best Rock/Indie/Alternative Act

These could either be open for all or just for British acts, with some International prizes still for Best International Solo Act, Group and Album?

Or have it so there has to be at least three or four British acts per category too so British music is still the focus, but allows International competition too?

I would prefer this, it makes a lot more sense. They could even do it so there’s 5 British and 5 International Act awards – it’s not like the BRITs have that many awards anyway.

They actually used to be this until like 2008. That’s where Sugababes & Darkness only wins came here.

with some International prizes still for Best International Solo Act, Group and Album?

They had these until like 2013ish? Gaga famously won International Female, Breakthrough and Album in 2010.

    Oscars FYC:

"Lamb" – International Feature and all categories

"Summer of Soul" – Picture, Film Editing and Documentary Feature

“The Green Knight” – in all categories

I think Adele might begin her next album rollout later this year and if she does she’s once again sweeping the Brits. If she doesn’t I hope Wolf Alice get their flowers even if Ed’s album eventually does better commercially.

Btw the Ivors and Mercury Prize nominees are brilliant this year!

    FYC: 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards

Billie Eilish: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Pop Vocal Album

Arlo Parks: Best Alternative Music Album

    Jazmine Sullivan: Best R&B Album

Tyler, The Creator: Best Rap Album

They had these until like 2013ish? Gaga famously won International Female, Breakthrough and Album in 2010.

They had these but they still kept the gendered split and they picked and chose which genres to reward, rather than looking at the wide spread of music.

International was also still Male/Female/Group as opposed to a collective ‘Act’ category, even with the Album category.

My thoughts are the full category list would be:

    Best British Album
    Best British Single
    Best New British Act
    Rising Star
    Best Pop Act
    Best Dance/Electronic Act
    Best R&B/Soul Act
    Best Grime/Hip-Hop/Rap Act
    Best Rock/Indie/Alternative Act
    Best International Album
    Best International Act

All have six nominees, with the exception of Rising Star with 3, and British Single with 10. Genre awards have a British quota so at least 4 of the nominations are British acts.

An expert independent panel/jury approve the genre categorisation for artists prior to any nomination process.

This wouldn’t be that bad actually. Maybe also add Best International Breakthrough/New Artist, I remember they scrapped that category at the beginning of the 2010s but I think it was a good category as it recognises new talent.

I think Be Right Back was an EP, not an album? So would it be eligible for British Album?

Things are shaping up nicely for ABBA’s upcoming ninth studio album Voyage, with a reported 40,000 UK pre-orders since yesterday’s announcement.

Coming for that International Group nom (win?)
