Putting pop and R&B together seems strange, I would’ve preferred to see a separate category for R&B/soul.

Will the fan voted genre categories just be British acts or international too? That’s what confused me, since they didn’t specify.

They need to be more specific lmao but I think it’s only British artists and International artists will be included in the categories that have the word in it. Makes sense to have more categories now the genre ones got excluded since so many artists (especially women) will end up snubbed from the main ones. But well, still don’t like fan voted awards, even though it will benefit my fav in this case lmao

Yes. When was the last time people listened to music and said ‘that’s a great male song’ as opposed to ‘that’s a great rock song’.

The Grammy’s have always had their major prizes open to all and completely ditched gendered splits in 2012. The Brit Awards as so so far behind on this.

On one hand I like it but on the other, I feel like men will just dominate. But now I’m more annoyed at the fan voting thing. But will it be the same amount of people nominated per category?

Dua Lipa, Arlo Parks and Little Mix all won gender neutral categories this year and next year I bet Adele wins Artist of the Year.

The Grammys are gender neutral and female artists absolutely SMASH it there most years.

I can’t see women being overlooked for the prizes to be honest.

Also the fact half the awards are now public voted would mean that it’s up to people to actually vote instead of complain about winners having not voted which takes some pressure off the BRITs themselves.

Most of these seem like very likely frontrunners – but I wouldn’t be surprised if Easy On Me took home British Single too.

If the gendered categories still existed, then Ed would be a frontrunner! But now it seems like that won’t happen. Bad Habits for Single is his best bet.

Ed wouldn’t be as clear a frontrunner as you’d expect – the last time he was nominated at the Brits, he lost all the competitive awards he was up for.

Stormzy, Harry Styles and Rag’n’Bone Man all beat him.

I agree the Brit’s mainly depends on who year it is that year. In the past 10 years I can only see women losing best artist in 2020, 2019, and 2015. (2018 could’ve gone either way because Dua and Stormzy were both highly successful that year. But for a fact Adele and Emeli would have won twice each due to their record breaking eras and Ellie Goulding would has still won in 2014 same with Dua in 2020. I doubt Jorja and Mabel could beat George Ezra and Stormzy. Plus multiply was much more success for Ed when you compare it to Paloma at the time.
