Although it’s still relatively early for predictions, I thought I’d go ahead and make this thread anyway for people who want to discuss the BRITs 2023. The date has already been confirmed for Tuesday 7th February 2023 at the O2 Arena.
We still have over 8 months until the eligiblity period ends, but my early predictions would probably be Harry Styles for British Single and Album (obviously depending on how good the album is, but I don’t think it’ll disappoint based on what we have seen so far). I know Ed Sheeran has hinted that he’ll be dropping another album soon so he might be competition. 2022’s ceremony was very clearly going to be an Adele sweep, and it was.
It’ll be interesting to predict the new genre-based categories now as well as international song, as we only found out about them a month before last time. I wish they’d separate pop and R&B though – I’d rather see five genre categories (Pop, Hip-Hop/Rap/Grime, Rock/Alternative, Dance, and R&B/Soul).

Apparently Jade is dropping a single in the Summer according to media reports. Potential British Single contender?!
Also, they wouldn’t be eligible for Best New Artist would they? Since they’re soloists but have won as Little Mix before…?
ReplyCopy URLApril 18, 2022 at 11:34 am #1204922106Harry has that Pop/R&B act on lock. They really should separate the two though, Pop acts will always have the advantage with a popular vote.

Agreed. Plus pop and R&B are completely different, it makes more sense to have a separate category for R&B/soul. Artists like Harry, Ed and Dua in the same category as people like Jorja Smith, Joy Crookes & Mahalia makes no sense.

hopefully jade can get a slot in that category, it’s definitely not impossible given how many slots it has. i can see her having collabs with dj acts like jax jones, that could help her (and the other members) as those type of collabs seem to be nominated a lot?
i’m not 100% sure what the rules are for new artist but i don’t remember zayn or harry styles being nominated for it so i’d assume the little mix girls are also ineligible?
ReplyCopy URLApril 18, 2022 at 4:22 pm #1204922487totally agree about pop/r&b. last year that category was bizarre: 4 pop acts and 1 act that does a bit of both?!

Tbh I’m not entirely sure but I remember they nominated ‘Dancing with a Stranger’ which had Sam Smith & Normani both as lead artists, Sweetest Pie also has Megan & Dua both as the lead artists rather than being Megan ft. Dua so I’m guessing the same applies? Not sure.
ReplyCopy URLApril 19, 2022 at 4:28 am #1204923255Kendrick announcing his new album, probably will get nominated in International Artist and Single (assuming he has a major hit from it which I’m sure he will, I mean they nominated Girls Like Girls last year which didn’t even seem like it was huge so I’m sure he’ll get a nomination).
ReplyCopy URLApril 19, 2022 at 4:52 am #1204923331For Best International Artist, Kendrick in and (probably) Camila Cabello out, she might still make it in International Song due to the Ed Sheeran collab.

Also watch out for the Arcade Fire in International Group, their album comes out on 6th May.April 19, 2022 at 5:34 am #1204923421Tbh I’m not entirely sure but I remember they nominated ‘Dancing with a Stranger’ which had Sam Smith & Normani both as lead artists, Sweetest Pie also has Megan & Dua both as the lead artists rather than being Megan ft. heartbreak anthem was galantis, little mix & david guetta all as lead artists but was placed in international due to it being primarily galantis’ single
the rules on this seem to be very inconsistent so we might not know where sweetest pie lays until nominations day (if it is even nominated)
