This album is everything a Cardi B album should have been. Not every song is a Bodak Yellow copy. She has great features and potential for a few huge singles. If she releases I Like It next, in time for summer, she has a big hit on her hands again and it’ll be the summer of Cardi. Any of the songs on here could be hits. I was just about to list them and I only left out Drip and Get Up 10, which are still good songs. She has the charisma and so long as she continues to show her vulnerable and human side and not get overexposed she should have no problem sticking around for the year and be recognized by the Grammys. She’s for sure going to rack up some rap field nominations. Drake will likely release an album (God’s Plan and/or Nice For What are going to be in play for the Grammys for sure). Maybe Chance the Rapper will get something out as well, but otherwise she just has Migos and Eminem as competition. She has the critics and will have the sales / hits, it’s just a matter of if she can be taken seriously in a male-dominated field. She deserves it.

Honey, I just don’t get it.April 9, 2018 at 12:27 pm #1202526778
Honey, I’m sure Beyoncé will be jumping on the Cardi B bandwagon.April 9, 2018 at 7:11 pm #1202527024
Cardi’s album is so good! I expect her to be nominated for BNA and in the rap categories. If she plays her cards right she can have another huge hit with I Like It.April 10, 2018 at 3:58 am #1202527245
Her personality might hold back older voters from taking her seriously, but she has an 82 on Metacritic now with 12 reviews. She is going to have a big sales / streaming week. There’s lots of room for singles on the album to carry her through the year, with I Like It being the obvious next choice sitting at number 2 on iTunes singles sales charts behind only Drake’s new single. She went all in on NBC this week with SNL and Jimmy Fallon helping her cross back into the mainstream. Regardless of whether you like her or not, it’s hard to deny that she’s going to be a contender at the Grammys next year and is having a legitimate breakthrough.April 10, 2018 at 5:22 am #1202527254
Pitchfork just gave her an 8.7 which is crazy! She will be a serious contender for the Grammys.April 10, 2018 at 5:37 am #1202527259
Well first off, the album is not…..great. Secondly, even with an 82, I still don’t see an AOTY nomination unless it is an extremely weak year and they feel as though she’s undeniable. It’ll be a shame if they actually do it though.April 10, 2018 at 5:59 am #1202527264
Cardi B. has multiple tour dates spanning from April to October with Coachella and the Bruno Mars tour. The pregnancy is going to derail a good deal of that. Nice to see the high critical marks so far for the album. “I Like It” is amazing! It has song of the summer potential for sure. Hope it’s released that way. Grammys, she’s in for Best New Artist and at least some Rap genre nods.April 10, 2018 at 11:10 pm #1202527792
It was a fine album, but I didn’t find any original idea or sound in it. Don’t understand the hype.April 11, 2018 at 12:58 pm #1202528090
I like her album. Yeah, it’s not original or any of that, but Cardi has never considered herself anything original and she doesn’t take herself seriously. She just brings the bops and hits all day. She’s fun. Her album is fun. Nothing more than that. It’s just nicely crafted for the type of music it is. I say it’s a B.April 11, 2018 at 6:53 pm #1202528217
As of right now, Cardi is the front runner for Best Rap Album. She has a lot of support within the industry and that’s what artists need in order to win in this particular field.
“Invasion” feels like one of those albums that will have longevity through out the rest of 2018. There are so many potential smash singles!
The only other competition I foresee would be Chance the Rapper. But I guess we’ll have to wait until he releases to be 100% sure.
Eminem is done, Kendrick won’t release a proper LP, Jay-Z has never been a favorite in this category, Nicki will flop, and Kanye rarely wins anymore. The ball is in Cardi’s court.April 11, 2018 at 8:21 pm #1202528260
Now 84 on Metacritic with 21 reviews. Sales predictions up to 225K!April 11, 2018 at 10:14 pm #1202528296
Honey, Cardi B will have competition from Drake.April 12, 2018 at 9:34 am #1202528508
Honey, Drake is not as beloved in the industry.
He lost Rap Album for ‘Views’ to ‘Coloring Book’. A less commercially successful but more critically acclaimed record.
If Drake ‘actually’ submits (even though he’s been vocal about his disdain for the GRAMMYs for quite some time now) he’d need support across the board. Huge sales + popularity doesn’t always = win.
Cardi has the critics, fans, and industry on her side. She’s the new ‘it’ rapper.
