All her wins are very much explainable. “I Can’t Breathe” was gonna pull votes from its name alone, and “Fight For You” was from a BP nominee and she had a lot of hype from that SOTY win, not to mention it’s quite baity.

A lot of people tend to forget that musicians are not the same as the GP. Artists like H.E.R., Brandi Carlile, and Jacob Collier have strong musician fanbases and are heavily admired. Just because they don’t get the same commercial success as other doesn’t mean they’re plants or paying for awards.

    FYC - Lil Nas X
MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) - ROTY, SOTY, Best Pop Solo Perf., Best Music Video
INDUSTRY BABY - Best Melodic Rap Perf., Best Rap Song
MONTERO - AOTY, Best Pop Vocal Album

Watch her not even get nominated. Lol

Sam Smith literally pulled an upset against Gaga. Adele won. Billie literally worked with Hanz freaking Zimmer on the orchestra arrangements. And they literally love her and her brother literally everywhere. The cards are lining up for her just too perfectly to fail.

    RIP SOPHIE

H.E.R. deserved it. “Fight for You” was the best nominated song.

I predict she will be the first WOC to win AOTY since Lauryn Hill. All H.E.R. needs is wide spread acclaim or a commercially successful era. The industry loves her.

Billie and her brother get called an industry plant all the time lmao, esp on social media. And this isn’t a fair comparison because Billie had monstrous commercial success with her debut album. She was everywhere in 2019, her awards weren’t unprecedented.

that’s because they are industry plants.

I wonder why H.E.R. of all people is being called an industry plant and not others? Does it have to do with her being Black/Mixed? Just curious because I don’t see industry plant label surrounding white artists. Things that make you go hmmm…

Congrats to H.E.R.! She’s setting herself up for the long haul, and it’s staggering what she’s accomplished in so little time. My Oscar choice was “Husavik,” but “Fight for You” is good enough, I guess. Not her best work, but it didn’t need to be. Loved the homage to Prince in her Oscar look! I see you!

It is crazy seeing her win when she isn’t even close to reaching the amount of success Adele, John Legend and Gaga had when they won their Oscars. Heck she’s not even close to Sam Smith’s success. Not to saying she doesn’t deserve it but it is something to think about, she doesn’t even have a number one on billboard. I think her biggest hit to date is The Best Part with Daniel Caesar. I do love HER though, her accolades and accomplishments are deserved for someone whom I believe hasn’t reached her full peak.

I think she’s closer to John Legend pre-“All of Me.”
