Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy not being nominated for Album of the Year is considered one of the biggest snubs in Grammy history. Many (even Kanye himself) attribute the snub to the fact that Watch The Throne was released in the same eligibility period.
But what if it was nominated? Could it have taken down the juggernaut that was Adele’s 21? MBDTF had heavy critical acclaim and it would have been Kanye’s fourth AOTY nomination. However, 21 was ginormous with multiple hit singles and recording breaking album sales.

If Kendrick couldn’t beat Bruno Mars or Taylor Swift or Beyoncé couldn’t beat Adele, then how would Kanye beat Adele?
Adele beat Kanye in SOTY, so she had more than enough power to beat Kanye in AOTY. Adele would have won either way.February 4, 2018 at 4:45 am #1202486978
No way.February 4, 2018 at 5:54 am #1202486994
No one could have beaten Adele. She’s the absolute Grammy darling. And 21 is undoubtedly one of the best albums released this decade.February 4, 2018 at 7:43 am #1202487039
He should have. But what the fuck are you smoking? Is this click bait? Did GoldDerby make you do this so there would be activity in the forum?
If Lemonade couldn’t beat 25, how can Kanye beat 21? And even if Fantasy is clearly a better album than 21, Kanye wasn’t the hit artist he was before 808s. So popularity wouldn’t have been on his side, while Adele was…Adele.February 4, 2018 at 7:51 am #1202487046
Nope.February 4, 2018 at 8:09 am #1202487060
Is this a joke? Of course not. If Beyoncé couldn’t, no one else could, as long as Adele doesn’t start to flop.
21 is arguably the best album of the decade. It’s even better than 25. No way any other artist could’ve beaten it.

It’s rather obvious why Kanye West would’ve lost to Adele.February 4, 2018 at 5:26 pm #1202487295
There is not a single album that was released during that eligibility cycle that could have beaten 21.February 4, 2018 at 5:46 pm #1202487311
No one could beat Adele that year. She had one of the biggest and greatest female eras of all time.
Kanye’s best chance I think was 2006 because he had the sales, acclaim, hits, pop culture impact. I think if you take out Mariah and replaced her with a country album it would have been close. It’s interesting that Paul McCartney didn’t split the rock vote as much. Kanye is arrogant though, so his attitude was always gonna be a turn off.February 4, 2018 at 7:32 pm #1202487349
Adele was probably the biggest lock I had seen in such a long time. Of course, there was talk about Lady Gaga, but that was nonsense. Adele had pretty much every category locked up without any debating.
