The Grammys voting procedures are notoriously opaque, with what Deborah Dugan describes as “secret committees” reviewing a longlist of 15 to 20 nominees in most categories, before whittling them down to the five or eight artists they feel are best representative of the list.
Dugan alleges the process is compromised by numerous irregularities, such as:
Some committee members represent or have relationships with the nominated artists, and push them onto the ballot
The board can arbitrarily nominate people who did not even make the longlistThe board “manipulates the nominations process to ensure that certain songs or albums are nominated when the producer of the Grammys wants a particular song performed during the show”
The committee reviewing nominations for the 2019 song of the year award chose as one of its eight final nominees a song that had initially ranked 18th out of 20.
Dugan alleges the artist behind the song was allowed to sit on the committee
The complaint also criticises the lack of diversity in these committees, saying that “between 2012 and the present, the board has been approximately 68% male and 69% Caucasian”.

January 22, 2020 at 9:14 am #1203298831According to former Recording Academy President Deborah Dugan, “No Tears Left To Cry” by Ariana Grande was originally supposed to be nominated at the 2019 Grammy Awards for Song Of The Year but was replaced by a rigged song that did not have enough votes.
Some are speculating that it was Shawn Mendes that got the nomination instead of Ariana.

January 22, 2020 at 9:59 am #1203298900We already talked about this. The Ariana song is Thank U, next and the ex-president is talking about the current Grammy nominees for SOTY.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 22, 2020 at 10:58 am #1203298994Honestly this is the one time the Grammy’s should be happy no1curr about them. If this was the Oscars, this scandal would be so much bigger and all over the place.

This is a mess! I have a feeling some of these members were being paid out to select certain artists. How else would they benefit from this?
no we need the panel or else Ed Sheeran would get all 4 mom for of the terrible shake of you

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 22, 2020 at 11:44 am #1203299093The way Dugan was treated is pretty wretched. It’s proof positive the Recording Academy is a collective group of old, shitty, rich white men intent on protecting the status quo at all costs at the expense of this newly ousted female chair. Sad state of affairs really.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 22, 2020 at 11:52 am #1203299113Also, just read how “Caution” by Mariah Carey and “Madame X” by Madonna, their latest albums had enough votes to be in contention for AOTY nominations, however, they were passed over in favor of albums with less votes.
Now, regarding Mariah, I think that she was on the verge of a nomination in the R&B field, album in particularly as a lot of people on here were predicting her in R&B Album, so I would have not been too surprised if she was also up for AOTY considering she is a veteran.
For those who want to look it up, it is on page 6 of the document going around mentioning several other R&B and Hip Hop artists who were blocked of winning Record, Song and Album of the Year

That isn’t what the document says, at all.
