Paula Abdul arguably ruled the late 1980’s as a pop superstar. She won Emmys, GRAMMYs, VMAs, had multiple #1 singles, and made a huge mark on the industry. In a strange way she paved the way for dancers like Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears to have success as singers. However, like some artists, she reached her peak and became a has been. But do you think she deserved longevity as a musician? Discuss.

I think it was a combination of the lack of music that would captivate the audience as well as the rise of Whitney and Mariah and the shift from Synthpop/Dance to Adult Contemporary, Soft Rock shift in Pop music in the late 1980s.

I also think her career was sort of winding down by the time the 90’s reached their mid-point.   After the smash success of “Forever your girl” and “Spellbound”, her career was sort of nosediving.

i think she made her mark when she could and was extremely influential in her time, not only as a dancer but for her choreography as well. She Left her mark by influencing others and essentially opening the door for the thin-voiced, dance-inspired artists of today.

Paula wasn’t a vocalist by any means but she was an amazing performer. Watch her 1989 performance at the VMAs where she did a medley of her #1 singles. She completely slayed it!
