Many people (including Adele herself) thought Beyonce’s Lemonade should have taken the Grammy awards top honor that year. If Adele hadn’t put out an album that year, do you think Beyonce would have won Album of the Year or would they have given it to some other album?

If Adele was NOT nominated, some bland white act would’ve won Album of the Year. Black artists stay losing due to racism.

Had Adele not released, ANTI would’ve rightfully received an AOTY nod.

He wasn’t nominated solely because they wanted to exploit the “Adele versus Beyoncé” narrative, knowing it would make the headlines + Adele would easily win and that’s what they wanted all along. That’s why they nominated Drake and not Radiohead or another white act to steal votes from Adele. Sturgill Simpson was too under the radar to be competitive, he wasn’t huge even in his own field.

Can I just say as well that 25 was another frustrating example of the Grammy eligibility calendar. From 1989-24K Magic we had AOTY winners that were almost 18 months old beating more acclaimed, recent releases, which was a frustrating consequence of this system.
