He has a stunning album with great review by all major music critics, and in my opinion the best album released this year so far. Giving the grammy to Frank Ocean would be a step in the right direction towards awarding well-reviewed albums and also it’ll make them seem more hip. And besides, since he came out it will show that the music industry has tolerence for lgbt communities.
What do you guys think? He has no chance? Or maybe the Grammy voters don’t work that way?September 1, 2012 at 10:11 pm #383833
No. But he’ll come close, like garnering some GF nominations (not AOTY), and I think he’s the frontrunner for BNA. He could win some in the R&B field too…September 1, 2012 at 10:36 pm #383834
He does have a chance…September 2, 2012 at 12:48 am #383835
Please…if Katy Perry and Rihanna can get in for their crapsterpieces, then ANYONE has a chance. I’m sure he’ll get in a la Neyo 2008.September 2, 2012 at 3:41 am #383836
I find his album to be very overrated. It’s good, but not the masterpiece people make it to be. Even with that said he would still be a far more deserving AOTY nominee than most of the nominees of the past years. Considering his success he has a very good shot, and if there’s an R&B nominee it will be him. I would even say if Fiona Apple’s Idler Wheel… is not nominated (which sadly is likely to happen) he probably has the best shot at winning. With no true blockbuster album in the mix, this could really be a year were good albums are recognized instead of the usual crap.September 2, 2012 at 10:33 am #383837
Ya, he has a great chance. There’s not many buzzed-about albums this year, but he definitely has one of them.September 2, 2012 at 11:22 am #383838
I too think he’s definitely in the mix. I’m willing to bet he wins BNA at this point.September 2, 2012 at 3:42 pm #383839
I doubt it. This is the Grammy’s we’re talking about. They’ll probably nominate, like, One Direction instead or something.September 2, 2012 at 4:04 pm #383840
Right now, I have Frank Ocean penciled in for AOTY and BNA noms. He seems poised to win BNA. A nomination in AOTY seems plausible, but a win is debatable.September 2, 2012 at 4:27 pm #383841
Right now I have Drake winning AOTY. It’s hard to even come up with nominees this year.September 3, 2012 at 7:06 am #383842
So many amazing albums have been shut out of the AOTY lineup in recent years to make room for trash like Teenage Dream, Loud, I am…Sasha Fierce, and The E.N.D. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, Revolution, Soldier of Love, and BlackSummer’snight are just a few examples of extraordinary albums that were glossed over. So Frank Ocean getting in or not is anybody’s guess, regardless of actual merit.September 3, 2012 at 1:43 pm #383843
I bet Frank Ocean will get into BNA and AOTY. He has a lot of things going for him at this point and the VMA recognition is the icing on the cake. I really like him and hope he gets recognized, but I also think that “Channel Orange” is very overrated. There are some awesome tracks on the album, but it is in no way a “masterpiece.” I never even bought the full album.September 3, 2012 at 4:34 pm #383844
What is else there to nominated? We don’t really have many very successful albums this year, so there’s a good chance there will be a few critically acclaimed albums thrown into the mix. Like I can’t imagine Kelly’s Stronger getting nominated for ALBUM OF THE YEAR. There will be a few surprises come nominations night, but this is where I think the Grammys will get some of it right this year for Album of the Year nominees.September 3, 2012 at 10:24 pm #383845
It has an excellent chance at getting nominated, that’s for sure. Frank Ocean is only getting more and more buzz. Will it last these next few months? It’s hard to say. He might not win this year, but if he continues making music as quality as Channel Orange, or even Nostalgia Ultra, he’s bound to gain some recognition at some point.
