What makes you think that Dua Lipa will go home empty handed?

She made a brilliant, no-fat album with a killer single, and has been in the driver’s seat since March (just look at the album cover).
Remember how H.E.R. was going to win New Artist, heck, she even had an album of the year nom. WHO WON?
Dua.
The industry LOVES her and everyone wants to work with her. Tay Tay made the second best album two years in a row.

November 26, 2020 at 4:58 am #1203874542A sweep is probably a reach, but Dua Lipa is competitive in every category she’s in, which maybe the exception of Pop Duo/Group. She’s fighting hard for it, so best of luck to her!

Dua’s speech after 5 losses is going to close the ceremony.

Ariana, Rihanna, MC… hope it will be Taylor not her.

And folklore’s cross genre appeal with pop/alternative/even country voters may make her an impossible force in the general field. Could Dua sweep the pop categories? Yes she could. But overall I see Taylor forming as the Billie Eilish of this year’s show while Dua is more of the Lizzo (minus R&B field) or Ariana Grande of this show. Would be a shoe in if Taylor was not there but due to folklore’s strength she may walk home almost empty handed.

I wouldn’t say that tbh. folklore is not pure pop so future nostalgia could sweep the pop categories but not have the coalition to win in the general field categories besides ROTY. folklore will have support from many different types of voters like alt, pop, and even country.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 26, 2020 at 1:33 pm #1203875786I still think both of them will split votes at ROTY, SOTY and AOTY. For now, I have AOTY to Jhene Aiko since she’s black and New Artist to Megan Thee Stallion.
If anything things are pretty evenly distributed. 3 R&B-ish albums, 3 rock/alternative albums, 2 pop albums, and one rap (not really)/pop album. folklore is a genre bending album so I could see it getting some rock/alternative and probably the bulk of country support and obviously pop support. Taylor and Dua seem to be the only people in the race for this award. I’d say Taylor wins it though.
ReplyCopy URLNovember 26, 2020 at 1:41 pm #1203875803Dua should take ROTY and BPSP. I do see a scenario where she wins BPVA and not AOTY (losing to Taylor who may have less pop appeal but more cross-genre appeal) but either way Dua should be on her way to a couple Grammy’s this year!

I think ROTY is her clearest shot, as well as BPSP. I think Dua winning any is a win for her. Taylor likely has at least 3 bagged at this point. And if Dua sweeps, it’s by close margins.
