7-time nominee En Vogue. It’s a travesty that forgettable collaboration with Chaka Khan and Ray Charles beat En Vogue’s Born To Sing.

Born To Sing (Album)January 3, 2020 at 11:48 pm #1203259033“Don’t Let Go (Love)” would have been a worthy alternative to “Killin’ Me Softly.”
Born to Sing would have been second for me in that Best R&B Group lineup in 1990. “Secret Garden” should have won that one, easily.

Now that you reminded me, you are 100% correct. “Secret Garden” should’ve won that category.

January 4, 2020 at 5:17 am #1203259254Honey, En Vogue had stiff competition in those R&B Group categories. They should’ve easily won Rock Group and Music Video.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 4, 2020 at 7:00 am #1203259378I think En Vogue should have won for Music Video with “Free Your Mind”, I love “Digging in the Dirt” by Peter Gabriel which won this category in 1993 and the song, however, En Vogue was deserving.
For Rock Group, “Free Your Mind” would have made a great winner, however, they were competing against the likes of big rock acts like Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2 who won the category.
I also think there were a few times they were close in R&B Group with “Whatta Man” and “Don’t Let Go (Love)”.

January 4, 2020 at 1:49 pm #1203260118That En Vogue has no Granmmys is so shocking to me; they’re the kind of act the Academy loves! But I guess that they had stiff competition in the R&B field.
As for “Free Your Mind,” I would’ve loved seeing them win either the Rock Group or Music Video awards.
It’s funny to me that U2 was still winning Grammys in the ’90s, considering how they’ve retconned their career since All That You Can’t Leave Behind to make us forget that decade of their career except for “One” and “Sweetest Thing” lol

I do think that Born To Sing would have been a worthy winner if R&B Album existed in 1991. The winner for R&B Duo or Group in 1991 should have been between Born To Sing by En Vogue or Secret Garden. I’ll Be Good To You had no business winning.
