FoTB, really hoping they can break through with their first GF nomination.

The nominations aren’t even out yet. We don’t know which of these will be in AoTY. Anything can happen. One of them or even both can totally miss out.

So let’s dial back for a bit.

Father Of The Bride has a decent chance if nominated, being a safe choice for Grammy voters. Traditional instruments, no rappers, no explicit tracks, nothing to offend conservative tastes.

There are some weak lyrical moments like this line, “Something’s happening in the country / And the government’s to blame”

Wow, real brave political statement there guys.

Paste Magazine didn’t hold back in their review:

Others liked it enough to give it 82 on Metacritic with over 30 reviews.

Not my favourite Vampire Weekend album, but at least half the tracks are memorable, which puts it ahead of the other one.

A lot of rock fans and longtime Vampire Weekend fans are saying it’s their worst album yet. I don’t think the Committee will care, but weak lyrics like “Something’s happening in the country / And the government’s to blame” don’t help its case at all. Then again, there were worse tracks on ASIB soundtrack… Its just generally been a shitty year for music in general.

Billie Eilish has my vote for AOTY, but Lady Gaga and Vampire should at least be nominated.

Such as? I’d like to know an example of these “tracks that are worse lyrically” than that. Could you quote them please? I doubt you even listened to the soundtrack, because you wouldn’t have said such thing if you did.

One can say anything that they want about ASIB. But one thing’s for sure. It’s lyrically very strong, especially the main songs it’s known for.

Even the most “modern pop” songs in the soundtrack that were meant to represent Ally getting into Shallow Pop stardom, actually had okay lyrics, such as “Hair Body Face” which was turned into an anthem about self-confidence about one’s appearance.

God, “Something’s happening in the country / And the government’s to blame” is not supposed to be a political statement. This line defines the character in the song as a person who doesn’t really care about what’s going on in the country because he’s worried about his relationship.

AOTY will go to which ever album feels the safest.

As of right now, that’s ASIB.

Billie Eilish will more than likely be nominated. But it’s rare for a debut artist to win the top award straight out of the gate.

Not even Kanye West or Amy Winehouse managed to do that.
