Someone called Beyoncé out for using imagery of African origin in her visuals but never making tour stops in any African countries. What are your thoughts?

I’ve also seen her be criticized for the The Lion King: The Gift. She talked about the importance of authenticity and making sure to feature African producers and artists, but Lion King takes place is East Africa (Kenya), and all the African influence and features are West African/Nigerian, therefore inauthentic to the film, and moderately offensive because of how Africa is always portrayed as this monolithic culture. I think it’s a pretty valid critique.

Tinashe said she’s submitting as well

Isn’t that cute. Good for her. Also, she called herself Pop the other day on Twitter. Now that she’s independent, where do you think her fate lies?

The critique oddly enough was from a Nigerian.

So I think this is the best thread to post this, but is Kanye really running for president?

Like remember in 2016 when he said it, I always thought it was a fucking joke. But apparently not.

So since I’m not from the US, is he fighting for a nom with the Republican party or he is going independent? Anyway I thought it was a joke back then and now it’s a serious thing. Wtf, this year couldn’t get any weirder.

Y’all should listen to Kira Kosarin’s new EP Songbird. I listened to it last night and was absolutely shocked at how good it was.

Independent, but news outlets are reporting that he dropped out of the race. IMO it´s all a plan to get Trump re-elected.

He said that he was against Trump now in his initial statement though. I guess he could be lying.

    Gaslighter:

Gaslighter: Definitely a bop. Love the lyrics and the tone. 9/10

Sleep At Night: The pre-chorus is my favorite part here. 9/10

Texas Man: It’s fine but I barely remember it. 6/10

Everybody Loves You: Beautifully written and captured the emotion very well. 9/10

For Her: This got me. Absolutely beautifully sung. 10/10

March March: Didn’t need all of the extended part at the end but still nice. 7/10

My Best Friend’s Weddings: Gorgeous build. 8/10

Tights On My Boat: Love love love the lyrics here. Wish the chorus were stronger. 8/10

Julianna Calm Down: I still really like this one but it’s burned on me a little. 7/10

Young Man: This one also hit really hard. 10/10

Hope It’s Something Good: Eh, not super memorable either. I think it’s a good summary of the album’s sentiment though. 6/10

Set Me Free: Another really emotional one. The desperation when she sings is absolutely incredible in this one. 9/10

Overall a 9/10. Every song is beautifully written. I feel every emotion so sharply. There are some real great lines (“I hope you die peacefully in your sleep
Just kidding, I hope it hurts like you hurt me”). As someone who has not gone through divorce, I felt everything: the defiant, the sorrow, the longing, the desperation. One of the best of the year for sure.

Best Tracks: Gaslighter, Sleep At Night, Everybody Loves You, For Her, Young Man, Set Me Free

Worst Tracks: Texas Man, Hope It’s Something Good

    FYC:

    folklore: AOTY, BPVA
    cardigan: SOTY
    exile: BPDGP

    Don't Start Now: ROTY, BPSP

    Ungodly Hour: BPR&BA
    Do It: BR&BS
Wonder What She Thinks Of Me: BTR&BP

    Phoebe Bridgers: BNA
    Punisher: Alt. A
    Kyoto: BRS, BRP
