For some reason the General Music Threads kinda died down. Post or discuss about any music related stuff you like that isn’t related to the Grammys or award shows.
ReplyJune 8, 2021 at 11:07 am #1204291748I’ve been really getting into Bleachers lately (I know that I probably should have listened to them more, as a Taylor fan). Don’t Take The Money, I Wanna Get Better and Stop Making This Hurt are all excellent.

June 8, 2021 at 11:15 am #1204291757I’m surprised Bleachers haven’t caught much traction, especially knowing how popular Jack Antonoff is. “I Wanna Get Better” could’ve been a hit.
ReplyCopy URLJune 8, 2021 at 1:36 pm #1204291995Bleachers are surprisingly ahead of their time, the 80s power pop sound of Strange Desire would’ve smashed in 2020.
The Terrible Thrills Vol.2 version of I’m Ready to Move On/Wild Heart with Susanna Hoffs is just so hauntingly beautiful.

ReplyCopy URLJune 9, 2021 at 3:43 pm #1204293653I’ve recently listened to Noname’s debut album “Room 25”, which had received widespread acclaim in 2018 (12th best in reception) and it’s brilliant! I have no idea why there’s not much buzz around her, as from the records I’ve listened to she seems to be a very promising contemporary R&B act.

Same thing with FKA Twigs, she put out the masterpieces LP1 and Magdalene in 2014 and 2019 respectively and no one gave her flowers. Twigs and Noname are miles better and dare I say it, so much more creative than what the Recording Academy usually goes with as their R&B pick, H.E.R.

Facts!
The lack of love for FKA Twigs is astonishing. I will never understand why she’s so underrated in the eyes of the general public and the industry despite putting out literal masterpieces. Magdalene is one of the best albums of last decade. She’s genuinely so creative and hardworking. I mean, learning pole dancing for an album (and mastering it too)? So commendable.
FKA Twigs is an ace.

Probably lack of label support. RCA is busy shoving Doja down our throats.

FKA Twigs is very popular for an artists not signed to any of the major labels that strongly influence radio, playlists, media, live events etc and sponsor Tik Tok challenges.

FKA Twigs is popular to a specific audience. Most of the GP doesn’t know or care who she is because her music isn’t commercial.
