I just realized there really isn’t a thread (at least now a recent one) for new music or just music in general, and it gets a bit annoying when the Grammy thread is filled with unrelated music conversations.

Feel free to share or talk about whatever music related!

I’ll try to keep the thread updated with the week’s new releases (at least the most popular ones).

A few big artists released new singles on Friday, so why don’t we start by giving our opinions on them?

    • Dancing with a Stranger – Sam Smith & Normani
    • Lost in the Fire – Gesaffelstein & The Weeknd
    • More Than That – Lauren Jauregui
    • Nights Like This – Kehlani (feat. Ty Dolla $ign)
    • Saturday Nights REMIX – Khalid feat. Kane Brown)
    • Without Me (Remix) – Halsey (feat. Juice WRLD)

    1. Liked the Sam Smith x Normani collab, though I feel like the production was bit underwhelming. The chorus needed a bit more punch to really drive the song home.
    2. Typical The Weeknd song. Good but not one that I’ll remember.
    3. I actually really liked this song. I wasn’t a big fan of Expectations, but the Murda beat mixed with her autotuned vocals kinda blend well. Like the lyrics as well.
    4. I really want Kehlani to do more songs like Honey and less like this.
    5. Saturday Nights was the weakest on that EP, and Kane Brown needs to stay in country.
    6. No.

    1. I was expecting better. Sam sounds bored & Normani didn’t add much to the song. Also, Normani’s solo stuff so far has been underwhelming and nothing has stuck. (5/10)

    2. I enjoy this song but it sounds like a mix of ’Starboy’, ‘Hurt You’ & ‘Pray For Me’. I hope Gesaffelstein stays away from Abel’s next project. (7/10)

    3. Great song. Probably my favourite single from a 5H girl so far. I enjoyed her previous single as well, and am looking forward to her album. (8/10)

    4. My song of the week. Kehlani delivered once again. The hook is so smooth. Ty Dolla $ign continues his streak of not having a bad feature. (8/10)

    5. I’m not a big fan of Khalid, and this song didn’t do anything for me. He sounds like an English pub singer. Brown didn’t add anything to the song either. (3/10)

    6. Garbage. A crappy remix in attempt to garner a few extra weeks at #1. Juice WRLD’s verse sounds like it was placed on the wrong track. (1/10)

Just listened to these for the first time.

    1. Didn’t even know Radiohead released a new track. Love the jazz influence. (6/10)

    2. Lana is so unbearable. I have no idea how people can sit through her albums without falling asleep. She has such a monotone voice. This song was no different – a snoozefest. (1/10)

    3. Boring, generic. (3/10)

I feel like Normani needs better tracks. All of her material is rather forgettable.

I can’t be the only one who has noticed that Normani has not release ONE SOLO SONG yet…! They all have features or people like Calvin Harris! You think that someone would want to be away from that after complaining about not getting enough time in 5H! I’m looking forward to something that is truly her and not with another artist on the track! What are your guys thoughts about Normani not realeasing any actual solo material yet?

I think her label is doing a terrible job. They should’ve maked sure she establishes herself before doing so many features.

I don’t know if I really seek passion in a lana song, I put her music on when I wanna wear my trashiest synthetic blond wig and pretend to be sad about an ex whose name I don’t even remember, these new songs, especially venice bitch, are kinda perfect for that

Maggie Rogers – Heard It In A Past Life

I’m a big fan of Maggie so I was very excited for her debut album. Alaska and On + Off are two of my favorite songs of all time, and the lead singles from this album (Give A Little, Light On, and specially Fallingwater) were all great-to-perfect indie pop songs.

Finally listened to the album and I gotta say it feels great. The lyrical detail on songs like Back in My Body, or the full-on bops like Retrograde, Burning, or Say It (all of those 3 songs are 10/10s for me) gave it such a vibrant and colorful sound.

If I were to criticize something it would be the production, which can feel a bit similar in some tracks; I feel like the quality of the songs outweights this little nit-pick of mine though. And there’s still some diversity of sounds (Say It has a pretty electro-R&B feel; Past Life is a full on piano ballad; Back in My Body has a rock-ish feel).

Overall I found the album to be a truly captivating debut. 9/10.
