I’d mentioned before how I’d have loved for their to be an official Gold Derby music awards in the prediction center (like the ones that are done for film and T.V.). I’d still love for there to be one, but I thought since the eligbility period for the Grammys is over, and nominations are coming out soon, that we should get a Gold Derby Music Awards going in the forums.
I haven’t seen another one up and running in the forums, so I thought I’d start one (apologises if there is someone else who usually does one).
I’ll post some more details shortlyNovember 21, 2014 at 9:38 am #404213
So if anyone’s interested, and no one else if doing anything like this, here’s the criteria.
We’ll use the same eligibility period as the Grammys (October 1st 2013-September 30th 2014).
For an album to be eligibile it had to have been released through a record label, not self-released material (unless it’s technically self-released material as the artist owns the record label). It doesn’t have to have charted. The album doesn’t have to have been submitted for the Grammy’s either. Normally I wouldn’t include re-releases of album, but as this is the first year I will except them (when I say re-releases I mean something along the lines of Deluxe editions of albums that have been released in the previous eligiblity period, not a re-relase of a classic album). If something you submit for a vote is ineligible, I will reply to your message and let you know.
For a song to be eligible it had to have been released in this year’s eligibilty regardless of when it’s album was released. No song from a previous eligibity is eligible under any circumstances (I know at this year’s Grammy’s one of Miley Cyrus’s songs from last eligiblity period is elidgible as the album is eligible this year, I would not accept that). The song has to have been released through a record label, no songs uploaded straight to iTunes, or on YouTube. The song doesn’t necesarily have had to chart, but the song does have to be an official single. I will not accept promotional singles, or album track; the song has to have had an official single relase. As this is the first year, I will accept remixes of songs from previous eligibility periods (Like Kendrick Lamar remix of radioactive or example).
That’s just the basics for now, I’ll post more in the next few days.
Any questions let me know.

I would prefer anyone voting to vote in every category.November 22, 2014 at 11:05 am #404218
Also, there will be 6 nominees in each category. So when you vote, you will vote for 6 nominees.November 22, 2014 at 12:03 pm #404219
Great Idea, I have a couple questions.
Do we have to submit 6 nominees in each category?
Do we have to submit for every category for them to count?November 22, 2014 at 12:09 pm #404220
Yes to voting for six nonimees in a category.
I highly encourage everyone to vote in every category (if there are categories it’s looking like most people aren’t wanting to vote in, then I may get rid of them), but no, you don’t have to vote for every category. As I said I encourage you to vote for every category, as I think it will give us the best look at the taste of music from the people in our forums.November 22, 2014 at 12:09 pm #404221
When the vote opens, the votes can be submitted to me through private message, not through this forum.November 22, 2014 at 1:09 pm #404222
I approve of this! Will definitely be sure to send my votes when you get ready.
FYC: Ready Player One. Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Original Score, Production Design, Director and BEST PICTURE (make it happen Oscars!!)November 22, 2014 at 1:13 pm #404223
I’ll wait a few days to open the vote, as I want more people to see this thread.
There is no official ballot of what is eligible, but I listed earlier what makes an album or song eligible (any queries just ask).
If you want an easy place to look, just got to Wikipedia’s like of 2013 and 2014 in music. I know for me I like to have a list of everything in front of me to help me not miss anything out.November 23, 2014 at 11:45 am #404224
I don’t think there’s anything I else I need to announce about this, so I’ll be opening voting in a few days. I just want to let this get as any view as possible so as many people do this as possible.
Post on here, if you think I’ve missed anything. ThanksNovember 24, 2014 at 5:35 am #404225
Well, there are some categories I don’t even know what to submit, but I think you should open the votes and let people send their ballots as long as they discover the thread and then you put a end submission date
Also, are there the same rules as Grammys? (like Pop artists can’t submit in the Dance/Electronic Field. New Artist can’t have won a Grammy and etc)November 24, 2014 at 10:52 am #404226
Yeah, I did think about the fact that some people wouldn’t even know what to vote for in certain categories, hence why I’m not making it manditory vote in ever category just encouraged.
Since there’s obviously no actually ballot (as that would take a long time to compile, it’ll be your discretion to place the material in a genre, it’s not necessarily following the Grammys. Obviously it’s your discretion within certain means. I wouldn’t take an Eminem song in best country performance. If there is a category placement I sincerely disagree with, I will reply and ask you to change your vote. Otherwise, if a song is getting votes in pop, and dance, it’ll go in what ever category it gets the most votes in when voting finishes. Then I will ask the people who voted for it in another category to change their vote. But yes, a song can only be eligible in one genre.
In terms on Best new artist, the Grammys actually change their rules on this category a few years ago, and now their now quite vague. So no, I won’t be following the Grammys with that. To be eligible the new artist must be on their first album that has charted.
How that helps, as before any questions just ask. I will open the voting tomorrow.
