As a member of GoldDerby for almost 5 years now, it’s disappointing to see how, every year, the music forum doesn’t get the attention other forums (namely Movies and TV) do. This is specially upsetting because the music forum tends to have more views and engagement than these forums multiple times a year, yet it looks like the music side doesn’t get the same respect others do.
A good example is how users basically have to do everything on their own. For the Grammys, we have to go to Twitter or contact voters on our own to get submissions, while other forums don’t have to at all. Not only that, but this season in particular we’ve had to message multiple moderators multiple times to get some big contenders on the prediction’s center, despite posting it numerous times on the threads. Despite this, the music side gets more engagement than other forums.
A good example is this season, where the Grammy threads are outperforming the Emmys, despite being in peak Emmy season (while Grammy nomination voting hasn’t even started).

We as a community are tired of the constant disrespect we get. We demand more.

However, we definitely deserve more respect from the site as a whole. I’ve been on this site for 4 years and I can attest to the point being made here.

I’m so removed from the way GD is ran nowadays. But I’m here for revolutionary Boz.

I completely agree! I understand that the Grammys aren’t even remotely as prestigious as the Oscars and Emmys, but it’s still a respected EGOT.
As Boz said, the Grammys bring tons of traffic to this forum. The amount of times I see +2K liked tweets about where people’s “fave” place on GD’s Grammy odds is astonishing. While it’s easy to dismiss the Twitter stans who solely come to GD to see how much of a chance their faves have, that’s still ad revenue being generated.
It’s not like us Music users are asking for a lot. We don’t need interviews with voters. We don’t need Skype calls with musicians. We just want you guys to use your sources and at least help us find simple submissions!

ReplyCopy URLSeptember 17, 2020 at 10:21 am #1203712906Perfectly said. Most people certainly feel the music forum to be the anarchist chaotic child. However, since GD editors like so much to be in tune with industry insights, providing the submissions would bring tons of attention not only from stan twitter but from official publications like Billboard, Variety and shit.
I remember last year Paul Sheeran asked who would be the five nominees to best new artist, so editors here aren’t even aware Grammy rules are changing. If there was any attention to the music awards this editor sure would have a lot of work and engagement with them.

This.
The forum moderators don’t want to deal with frequent drama. There’s no concrete leadership or definitive regulations to ensure users aren’t attacked for their opinions, bullied, harassed, or trolled by multiple accounts.
I’m not an ATRL user, but from what I’ve heard, they have a system in place using warning points. GD should implement a method like this. Or at least hire a reliable, unbiased, moderator to monitor the music forums at all times.
Also, The Oscars & EMMYs are GD’s bread ‘n’ butter. You rarely see editors in YouTube videos discussing the GRAMMYs. Maybe because the Recording Academy is very strict on releasing submission lists. But there isn’t even a Music Awards like there is for Film or TV. So its obvious where their priorities are.

ReplyCopy URLSeptember 17, 2020 at 10:29 am #1203712932I’ve always found it weird that TV and Movies have had their own GD awards for nearly 15 years now, yet there’s nothing for Music. I think that just says it all.

September 17, 2020 at 10:29 am #1203712938Okay but when is the Make Boz a Mod campaign starting?
ReplyCopy URLSeptember 17, 2020 at 10:30 am #1203712943Also the notion that the music side is way more “stan” influenced than the others is exaggerated. This year alone there’s been parody-porn posted on the Movies/TV forums, and a lot of user attack each other on the regular.
It’s also good to point out that, from what it seems, there aren’t even moderators here, while there are in the other forums.
