biggest upset at the Grammys ever? no, not considering Batiste was the nominations and wins leader (with ELEVEN noms at that).

- Abbott ElementaryApril 3, 2022 at 9:16 pm #1204902561Most people had TonyGa winning AOTY and ROTY too, including you, so saying that people thought it would be relegated to trad pop is a false narrative. Atleast on GD.
I’m talking about nominations wise. When it got that Video nod, people thought there would have been some passion there, but we were wrong. Big deal. And as for me having TonGa at #1 on AOTY/ROTY, I also said that I wasn’t completely confident in that prediction and even said multiple times throughout the season that “Leave The Door Open” and Jon Batiste were threats, and look what happened!
ReplyCopy URLApril 3, 2022 at 9:16 pm #1204902563Low-key cruel for them to not let Gaga give a speech tbh. They could’ve easily put Traditional Pop in the main show.
All in all, kind of a sad way to let Tony Bennett end his career, but I guess they thought they gave him all the accolades he deserved already.
ReplyCopy URLApril 3, 2022 at 9:17 pm #1204902567Also I don’t think Gaga is ever winning a GF award tbh. The narrative for Bennett seemed pretty hard to deny on paper + LFS was baity, so her status plus all of that not even being able to win Pop Duo over KMM is pretty wild. Batiste winning means there was too much genre vote splitting / maybe a lack of passion going on which shouldn’t have been the case for LFS, so I don’t think she’s ever winning.

WE ARE was actually #4 so it’s not that surprising, considering how weak the top 3 contenders are.

April 3, 2022 at 9:19 pm #1204902578Gaga lost all 10 of her GF nominations lmao. She’s the Glenn Close of the music industry.
She definitely dominates the pop field, which is arguably the most competitive category. Plus do the public really cares what a GF is? Like do people introduce Taylor Swift as 11-time Grammy winner, or as “11 grammys but 3 time album of the year winner”?
ReplyCopy URLApril 3, 2022 at 9:20 pm #1204902585Do you think Jon Baptiste was #1 during nomination voting?

Big TimeApril 3, 2022 at 9:20 pm #1204902587I also think the narrative of Jon having 11 nominations might’ve swayed some people unfamiliar with his work to vote for him in AOTY.

ReplyCopy URLApril 3, 2022 at 9:21 pm #1204902593everyone was paying too much attention to the gaga/tony bmv nomination that we all overlooked the fact that the most nominated artist of the night was also there, and he was the one who ended up winning 💀

I mean the 3 time Album of the Year winner is kinda history making, so yea, when she dies, that’s gonna be a headline.

I did feel like Tonyga’s BMV nomination benefitted from the alphabetical listing tbh

ReplyCopy URLApril 3, 2022 at 9:30 pm #1204902623looking back, gaga/tony had 0 competition in engineered album, the win clearly didn’t mean much
