I am doing research on some of my favorite female singers of the 80’s, 90’s, and today to NOT win a Grammy. While most of my favorites have won Grammys many talented underrated women got overlooked. Most likely due to not selling as many records as the people they lost to.
I am sticking to only women NOMINATED for a Grammy. How would you rank them based on how much they deserved to win, their talent, and impact on music during this era? And they need to still be alive.
1980’s
1. Diana Ross
2. Heart
3. Taylor Dayne
4. Laura Branigan
5. Belinda Carlisle
6. Bonnie Tyler
7. Sheila E
8. Joan Jett
9. Teena Marie
10. Kate BushHonorable Mention: Brenda Russell, Lita Ford, Pebbles, Karyn White
1990’s
1. Vanessa Williams
2. Jewel
3. Bjork
4. Tori Amos
5. Wilson Phillips
6. Sophie B. Hawkins
7. En Vogue
8. Courtney Love
9. Joan Osborne
10. Oleta AdamsHonorable Mention: Patty Smyth, Lisa Stansfield, Meshell Ndegeocello, Natalie Imbruglia, Tamia, SWV, PJ Harvey
2000’s-2010’s
1. Martina McBride
2. Katy Perry
3. Sia
4. Janelle Monae
5. Avril Lavigne
6. Lana Del Rey
7. Florence Welch
8. Ledisi
9. Jazmine Sullivan
10. HaimHonorable mention: Nikki Minaj, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato, Miley Cyrus, Kelly Price, Sza, Vanessa Carlton
Am I missing anyone??? Anyone else worthy to be listed?

December 18, 2020 at 4:36 pm #1203931125Jennifer Lopez shouldn’t be listed in the 90’s group, since her debut album was released in 1999. Furthermore, I think her musical talent is extremely limited, so she shouldn’t be listed in general.

Yeah I was struggling to come up with names for the 90s. But I just remembered Oleta Adams was nominated 4 times that decade so I will replace JLO with her. I don’t like JLo’s music at all but she’s certainly popular and has had a music career for 20 plus years now.

J.Lo should’ve won Dance Recording though. “Who Let the Dogs Out” over “Let’s Get Loud”? Nah.

“Who Let the Dogs Out” over any of the other nominees is criminal. J-Lo still wouldn’t have been my top choice, though.

In terms of production, it’s hard to argue against “Natural Blues,” but if it’s about also being a danceable song, then “Let’s Get Loud” is my top choice. That said, “Be with You” is no slouch, either; it’s one of Enrique’s best and sadly also one of his most underrated.
Hell, even “Blue (Da Ba Dee)” would’ve been a better choice. At least people remember that one-hit wonder somewhat fondly (independent of critics often putting it in “worst” and “most annoying” lists).

Nina wasn’t liked within the industry because of her stank attitude. Great artist but she was probably insufferable to work with.
