We don’t really talk about Hip Hop/Rap enough when discussing the Grammys besides the bias they have against it from winning GF. Who would you choose as the winner for the following respective years in the many categories.

2021 – Nas, King’s DiseaseJanuary 7, 2021 at 11:36 am #1203967721I think Alfredo should this year. We should not focus on who we give the award to but more what album is much more beloved. I’ve heard more people listening to Alfredo more than Kings Disease and it has much more acclaim. Additionally, you would be snubbing Freddie Gibbs as well. He was snubbed with past works like Bandana, Piñata, and probably Alfredo.

Point. Blank. Period. 👏🏾
Missy Elliott should’ve won Rap Album for Under Construction. Lil’ Kim should’ve been nominated for Hardcore.

1998- Wu-Tang Forever (Wutang Clan)
1999- Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill (They got it right)
2000- Things Fall Apart (The Roots)
2001- And Then There Was X (DMX)
2002- The Blueprint (Jay-Z). Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele should have been nominated
2003- Stillmatic (Nas)
2004- Speakerboxx/Love Below (They got it right)
2005- The College Dropout (They got it right)
2006- Late Registration (They got it right) Kanye also should have won Album Of The Year.
2007- Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor (Lupe Fiasco)
2008- Finding Forever (Common)
2009- Untitled (Nas) though in all fairness Lil Wayne was a JUGGERNAUT that year and there was no way he was losing. Nas’s Untitled was a better album however.
2010- The Renaissance (Q-Tip)
2011- How I Got Over (The Roots)
2012-My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (They got it right) this should have also been Kanye’s second Album Of The Year win
2013- Life Is Good (Nas)
2014- Good Kid M.a.a.d City (Kendrick Lamar)
2015- Because The Internet (Childish Gambino)
2016- To Pimp A Butterfly (They got it right) Kendrick should have also won Album Of The Year
2017- Life Of Pablo (Kanye West)
2018- Damn (They Got it right) Kendrick should have also won his second album of the year award
2019- Daytona (Pusha T)
2020- Championships (Meek Mill) though Freddie Gibbs & Madlib’s Bandana was ROBBED of a nomination.
2021- King’s Disease (Nas)
Nas should definitely win for Kings Disease this year. Freddie Gibbs Alfredo was GOOD but nothing special. Its the exact same thing he’s been rapping about his entire career and it gets repetitive. King’s Disease is better lyrically, conceptually, and thematically. If I want to hear coke dealing raps then Freddie did it MUCH better on Bandana (which WAS snubbed of a nom)
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2021 at 3:31 pm #1203968250Get real! Alfredo should NOT win this year. King’s Disease should and will rightfully win.
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2021 at 4:11 pm #1203968302To be honest, Cardi’s album was the weakest of that line-up. Yeah, she’s popular and making hits but so was Macklemore in 2013. I was rooting for Push and Mac.
A Tribe Called Quest’s We Got It From Here snub is a fucking crime that year. Same with The Roots’ Undun. Both albums in my top 5 hip-hop albums in this decade.
Pac and Big should’ve got Grammys. They were superstars and icons in 90’s. They gave it to Bone Thugs(which a legendary group), Puff Daddy and Coolio.
ODB’s hijack and speech is still awesome. Wu-Tang is for the children. WE TEACH THE CHILDREN. Wu should’ve got a Grammy instead of Puff Daddy’s Shiny Suit Album.

The Roots Undun was indeed nominated in 2013.
A Tribe Called Quest getting snubbed was indeed ridiculous and Q-Tip called out the Academy about it.

Lauryn Hill competed in R&B album.

Its funny because as a kid I remember rooting for Will Smith when he won. Will was like a superhero back then and Men In Black isn’t a BAD song but he definitely didn’t deserve that Grammy that year
I will say that I appreciated his speech when he talked about him and Jazzy Jeff boycotting the first rap grammy win in 88 because of the disrespect the Academy historically showed Hip Hop
ReplyCopy URLJanuary 7, 2021 at 8:40 pm #1203968619Will Smith’s music career was impactful & paved the way for many rappers to crossover into Mainstream Pop.
But looking back…his wins didn’t age well 💀. The VMAs loved him too. He won Best Male Video back to back lol.
I remember one year he randomly won an AMA for Pop/Rock Male Artist back in 04/05 😂

It was nominated but deserved to win, that’s more of like robbed than snubbed.
