1994 RAP SOLO
Dr. Dre “Let Me Ride” – WINNER
Paperboy – “Ditty”
Sir Mix-a-Lot – “Just Da Pimpin’ In Me”
MC Lyte – “Ruffneck”
LL Cool J – “Stand by Your Man”I would have picked MC Late for Ruffneck
1. MC Lyte
2. Dr. Dre
3. LL Cool J
4. Sir Mix-a-Lot
5. PaperboyReplyCopy URL👑Cicely Tyson (1924-2021)
👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)January 16, 2021 at 12:56 am #12039861142001 RAP SOLO
Eminem “The Real Slim Shady” – WINNER
Common – “The Light”
DMX – “Party Up (Up in Here)”
Mystikal – “Shake Ya Ass”
Nelly – “Country Grammar (Hot Shit)”All of these songs were everywhere. I would not have been mad if Common or DMX won.
“The Real Slim Shady” is iconic but hasn’t aged well. Eminem’s misogynistic & homophobic lyrics are gross. The way he also went after Pop artists felt like a desperate gimmick.

Beastie Boys — “Ch-Check It Out”
The Roots — “Don’t Say Nuthin”
Snoop Dogg & Pharrell — “Drop It Like It’s Hot”
Terror Squad — “Lean Back”Drop It Like It’s Hot should have won this one
1. Snoop & Pharrell

👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)January 16, 2021 at 1:00 am #12039861202006 Rap/Sung
Linkin Park and Jay-Z “Numb/Encore” – WINNER
Gwen Stefani featuring Eve – “Rich Girl”
Destiny’s Child featuring T.I. and Lil Wayne – “Soldier”
Common featuring John Legend and Kanye West – “They Say”
Ciara featuring Missy Elliott – “1, 2 Step”I agree with this winner. Numb/Encore is a reason why I wish this category existed in the 80s so that Walk This Way by Run DMC & Aerosmith could have won this award.
Interesting that Jay Z won over Beyonce in this category.
“They Say” was probably the runner up in this category.
I miss the Rap/Sung category & how it used to be. This new Melodic Rap crap ain’t it.

Rap/Sung used to be SUCH a good category

Not only that, it also should’ve taken BEP’s place in Record. It’s a classic and a banger and one of the best rap songs of its decade. The BEP song is just mediocre.

ReplyCopy URLJanuary 16, 2021 at 3:18 pm #1203986933For Rap/Sung in 2006, I’m wondering if “Lose Control” (which won Best Music Video) were nominated over “1,2 Step” in this category, if it would have had a good chance at win that year?
