This is a very interesting category. What wins were deserving, who should have won what year, and what songs should’ve been nominees?

I’ll start: U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” losing to fucking “Somewhere Out There” is one of the most egregious losses in this category.

So is an Ed Sheeran song beating out the masterpiece that is “Alright”.

    Blank Space should’ve won.

If we’re talking about non-nominated tracks, Fiona Apple’s Paper Bag & Extraordinary Machine should’ve won.

Was Losing my Religion nominated? It also should’ve won.

Yes, it was. For both, in fact. It should’ve won both.

Put Your Records On deserved over Not Ready to Make Nice

NO. That is the one category the Dixie Chicks deserved that year. Corinne didn’t deserve either of her ROTY/SOTY noms. (BTW, the other Dixie Chicks awards should’ve gone to Gnarls Barkley and JT.)

Royals is my favourite win of the decade here, especially given the influence Lorde’s first album seemed to have on later artists.

Thinking Out Loud over Alright stung, especially given Ed’s album had been nominated the year before. So weird that he was even allowed to submit.

The back-to-back Roberta Flack wins were iconic

The tie between Evergreen and Debby Boone was a ****ing embarrassment.

We Belong Together deserved over Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own

This was a slap in Mariah’s face. WBT was the song of the decade. It should’ve won.

    👑Cicely Tyson (1924-2021)
    👑Mary Wilson (1944-2021)

    Literally. Billboard backs it up.

The fact that even the Grammy producers played WBT when U2 was sooo telling.

yes that was crazy. That’s an iconic song. Actually REM is my favorite band ever-they are the best band/songwriters in the history of pop/rock/indie music. And the fact that they didn’t win for that track is crazy.

in my mind they deserved nominations/wins for AOTY for:

    MURMUR

    RECKONING

    LIFES RICH PAGEANT

    DOCUMENT

    GREEN

    OUT OF TIME

    AUTOMATIC FOR THE PEOPLE

    NEW ADVENTURES IN HI FI

    UP

And they should’ve won SOTY for

    Fall on me,

It’s the end of the world as we know it,

    Losing my Religion &

    Man on the Moon

Norman Fucking Rockwell deserved over bad guy

You Oughta Know deserved over Kiss from a Rose

    YES YES

If NFR didn’t win, Lover or Bring my flowers now should’ve won. Bad guy is one of the worst SOTY winners in recent history.
