So I realized yesterday that Dolly Parton & Beyonce both recieved their 46th grammy nominations, continuing their tie for most nominated female.  Barbra Streisand has 42 nominations, Alison Krauss has 38 nominations and I know both Emmylou Harris & Aretha Franklin are also somewehere inbetween the high 30’s & low 40’s but I can’t seem to google an answer on their total count…  Anyone know off hand???

Any other females within range of the above numbers???

Also when the term various artists is mentioned on a nomination, is that included in the count of nominations for an artist?

Try http://www.aceshowbiz.com for awards and nominations by artists

Aretha Franklin is between 30 and 35 nominations. I couldn’t find much from Emmylou Harris since the aceshowbiz is only listing her wins. The only other female with 30+ nods is Sheryl Crow with 32. And I don’t think there are any other. I checked Tina Turner on wikipedia and she has 21.

The term “Various Artists” only count for the Album of the Year category. In the genre categories only the producer of the album gets the award.

    Hi Tony…thanks for the reply!!!

I looked on aceshowbiz.com earlier and I don’t trust their numbers.  I’ve kept up on a number of artists nods through the years with Streisand (& Parton) being one of them and Streisand for sure has 42 noms, but if you trust aceshowbiz.com she only has 28.  I had tracked down the numbers on Franklin & Harris years ago, but either I can’t find my info in my files or they are on my previous and now dead laptop.  I’m sure both of them are in the high 30’s or early 40’s by now.

I just looked at wikipedia’s nomations total, yet to be updated with the current nods…it has Beyonce with two more than Dolly…but I think they are off.  Trying to research it too see if I’m off on Beyonce’s count.

I wish the academy would include nominees in their database, I have Tom’s book that ends in 1997 with all noms.

the reason i join GD many many many many years ago was that Tom had an excellent Award Database where you could see most of the nominations from different awards. But when we moved to the Envelope, that Database was not long available…
I wish Tom will soon make it available again…

About the Grammys, i do love statistics and i follow their Winners Database since 95… and they have changed it so many times… I give you several examples…
The first time i checked all the solists from Opera were listed as a winners… then they only listed them since 1981…
Other times Cast Album, they considered the solists, so Angela Lansbury used to have 3 grammys, then they up-dated and now she has none…
Some years ago, in their DATABASE you could see the performer/artist of the work… now it is not possible.. they only post the winner and the work and the year… and if you want an specific cathegory… lets consider Opera… that is not possible, you have to go throught all the Classical section, and that is simple a nightmare…

So i will love that they will make possible to people to see the different press realise from the nominations years… i dont understand why they dont keep it…

Yeah the GRAMMY.com database is messed up. Wikipedia is much better

You guys can also try http://www.rockonthenet.com/grammy/index.htm They have all of the mainstream categories listed. And you can check them by ceremony from 1980 to present

Yes the number does include her nominations with Destiny’s Child.

I like Beyonce, a lot actually, she is still regularly played on the radio and there are very, very few radio played artists that I have some respect for their talent these days.  However, I don’t really pay too much adirmation for her staggering amount of nominations in comparison to longer established artists like Parton bc Beyonce came out in a time where there was such an inflation of categories…SO MANY MORE than way back in the day.  The R&B field especially was bloated with cats before the slimming down and still today has more than the other of the main genres.  Plus Beyonce has gotten quite a few nods for songwriting in which she shares writing credits with LOTS of other people.  The songwriting thing is being a bit nit picky I know, but it just makes me wonder how much of a contribution is going on here.  The grammys should consider the limited number of producers rule the oscars use.

Thanks TonyKuko!!!  I have taken Tom’s book off the shelf and plan on looking up 1998 to last year the best way I can on the internet, the above site should help out.  Gonna post my results for maybe like the top 10 as soon as I can.  Not sure if I should really pay attention to classical categories or not???  Wondering if there even are any females in that field who could manage to make it in the top 10 (likely mid 20’s or more nods)???  Oh shit and then there’s the latin grammys too…I don’t know if I could handle that.

    – Latin Grammys is a different story. They are counted separately (Shakira, for instance holds 2 GRAMMYs and 8 Latin GRAMMYs. But no source has ever said she has 10 GRAMMYs). Ironically, everything you want to know about the Latin GRAMMYs (even each ceremonies’ performances) is in Wikipedia. The Wikipedia database for the Latin Grammys is even bigger than that of the Oscars and off course the GRAMMYs.

    – You could take into account classical categories but don’t expect many females to actually reach the 20-awards mark.

Latin grammys are so strange to me, considering they still have latin music categories in the regular grammys.  Also, I guess it’s the daytime emmys of the music biz…  to me a grammy is a grammy and an emmy is an emmy.  I might attempt it…

One this you can say it’s a lot harder nowadays to get a nomination with out the gender categorys.
