Honey, Beyoncé is known for NOT writing her own songs. Duh!

Same with Xtina. she won Grammys for Lady Marmelade, Say Something, Beautiful which were all written by other songwriters, same with Genie in the bottle and her debut album (where she ha zero writing credits) which got her Best New Artist win in 2000. The only Grammy she won that has her credited as a songwriter is Ain’t No Other Woman but that was also written by other songwriters so…Christina is even less talented than Beyonce overall in crafting songs, writting lyrics, playing instruments and so on…As someone once said: Artists who don’t write their own songs are SINGERS, artists who write their songs are MUSICIANS (and real true artists). Popular true musicians these days are only: Ed Sheeran, Taylor Swift, Sia, Adele and a few others.

I stan Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran who actually write all of their songs unlike Beyonce.

Who are actually mediocre and no better. What is it with this notion of “Omg songwriter” label that makes stans think that=superior when the songs are SHIT?

Where do I start with this mess of an awards show?

    • SZA losing BNA (but I guess it’s worked out for her)
    • Adele besting Beyoncé’s Lemonade for 21 2.0
    • Beck beating Beyoncé’s Beyoncé
    • Anti snubbed in AOTY for Justin Bieber (I still can’t even; not a win but still)
    • Every single Kendrick Lamar loss to both Bruno Mars and Macklemore
    • The Bruno Mars sweep

“No user starts this shady” - someone culturally relevant.

Bitch please. Listen to Speak Now, Red lyrics and you will see that Taylor Swift is not mediocre. Her voice is mediocre but her songs are extremely well written (from 1989 pop perfections, to countless country gems from debut and fearless, extremely emotional and well-written red country/pop), she has written MANY songs for other artists as well. Name me a better songwriter this decade

I don’t know why everyone was so upset when Beyonce lost for “Lemonade”. She hasn’t written a single song for that album- all of the words were other people’s visions (even Becky with the good hair). I mean how can the album be personal and whatever shit if you just sing on it. Adele deserved in 2017, same with Beck who produced and wrote 100% of Morning Phase while Beyonce has never ever written a single song! Beyonce is seriously so over-rated. I get she’s a good performer but other than that she’s not creative nor a talented musician when it comes to crafting a song so yeah, she is by far over-awarded with Grammys (23) if you conpare it to her actual musical talent!

Songs can be personal without writing it yourself. Is “Respect” any less personal because Aretha Franklin didn’t write it? I understand if you are tlaking about Rihanna or Ariana but Beyonce’s singing is personal. It doesn’t matter who wrote “DOn’t Hurt Yourself” or “Sandcastles” once you listen to the voice.

Go check the interviews from songwriters who worked on Lemonade- they all presented the demos to Beyoncé who then sent the demos to other songwriters to finish the songs- she got a credit because she is Beyoncè lol. She even got the writing credit for Perfect Duet

Beyoncé’s forte definitely isn’t songwriting, and she has never claimed that to be true, but to say she has NEVER EVER written a song like you boldly claimed is a blatant lie. Most of the Survivor album was written majorly by her with a few co-writers.

And my main problem is with what you said about how an album can’t be personal if you just sing on it. If an artist has a vision of their album in mind, and simply explain their vision to co-writers who write the majority of the song, but still maintain the artist’s vision and emotions, it can still be personal. Obviously, it won’t be as personal as a self written album, but to say it cannot be personal at all is simply wrong. A writer on Lemonade literally explained that this is what Beyoncé did. https://twitter.com/BeyLegion/status/1067894138425810953?s=20

The voice is an instrument. Once again I understand if you are talking about Rihanna, but the way Beyonce uses her voice is musicianship and artistry.

To me, Alison Krauss should’ve been given the Best Female Country Performance award in early 2008 for her song named “Simple Love” as well as the Best Country Album award in early 2000 for her release named Forget About It.

God bless you and Alison always!!!

Holly (a fan of her for 25 years now)

P.S. Carrie Underwood and the Dixie Chicks are who have them two awards.

how does being a songwriter make someone a better singer or musician? Singing is about being an interpreter. You make the lyrics or notes, come to life, using your voice as an instrument. That being said, Beyoncé’s lemonade used too much rap singing, for my taste. I think Adele deserved to beat Beyonce that year. But I think Beyonce deserved to beat Taylor Swift in 2010. Taylor Swift may be a good songwriter, narrator, but her voice, can be weak, and isn’t as mature or strong as Beyoncé’s.

Singing is actually one of the least important aspects of music. There are TONS of incredible perfect strong vocalists in the world but there are only a few exceptional songwriters out there. Also rappers don’t have great nor strong voices, some of them sound horrible if they would sing but still, songwriting, production, emotional interpretation all come before vocal ability. FEARLESS is miles better than Sasha Fierce, way more impactful, successful and also completely written by Taylor

For me tone is more important than the lyrics to a song. I don’t pay attention to the lyrics when I’m listening to a vocalist. A great singer can sing the phone book and still sound great. For example, I’m a Britney stan, and majority of her Grammy nominated  top hits are about nothing. baby one more time, oops I did it again, toxic, they have virtually no lyrical meaning, just fluff. Her distinctive voice is why I keep listening. 🙂
