Out of curiosity, it’s not sure that twenty-one pilots will be submitted in Alternative Album, is it? I really hope they won’t contaminate the category.

The Alternative Music Album category, as the name implies, if for Alternative music only. It does not include, I believe, soft rock music like what Twenty One Pilots’ Trench consists primarily of. The War on Drugs’ A Deeper Understanding was, in my opinion, far softer in terms of rock than Trench. Greta Van Fleet’s From the Fires was also wasn’t a deep hard rock album, a bit similar to Trench. So, in my opinion, Twenty One Pilots Trench isn’t eligible in the Alternative Music category. To me, it’s clear rock.

Trench’s sound is likely too mainstream for alternative. I can see it being moved to rock or even pop.

I’ve been rotating it from Rock to Alternative and viceversa. It does feel a bit more electronic-based than past winners, and it would fit in better with St Vincent/Beck type of songs than Greta Van Fleet and Ghost, so I left it in Alternative. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s slotted in Pop or Rock though.

    ALTERNATIVE ALBUM
    ANIMA– Thom Yorke
Father of the Bride– Vampire Weekend
I Am Easy to Find– The National
    i,i– Bon Iver

I think these four are very safe bets… previous winners with big names and their albums all received considerable acclaim.

I’d say next in line are:
Remind me Tomorrow– Sharon Van Etten
A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships– 1975
    Titanic Rising– Weyes Blood
On the Line– Jenny Lewis (pop?)

Would be good to see some women in there!

The 1975 could be in Rock Album; that’s where their last album was.

What about Fontaines D.C. – “Dogrel” in the rock categories?
The most acclaimed album of the year so far according to albumoftheyear.org

    https://www.albumoftheyear.org/ratings/6-highest-rated/2019/1

But maybe no chance for a Post-Punk album like this one at the Grammys?

Remember, like I said in my last post, The War on Drugs’s A Deeper Understanding won in the rock category, so, Trench should be considered there as well. St. Vincent’s MASSEDUCTION and Beck’s Colors dabble with more experimental rock and art rock fusions, that’s why they were considered in the Alternative Music category. Another good example of what alternative is is Björk’s Utopia, which was also nominated this year.

The 1975 have been nominated for a Grammy before? Other than Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package, I don’t recall other Grammy nominations for them.

I’m seconding the Ed Sheeran prediction. Those three guys have 20 Grammys combined, the song was a moderate hit on rock radio, and it’s total bait.

“Jenny of Oldstones” would compete in Pop if submitted.

Get real! Ed Sheeran is NOT getting a Best Rock Performance nomination.

Beyonce was nominated 3 years ago.

    Sheryl Crow (Americana)
    Imagine Dragons (pop)
