Grammys 2022: Alternative + Rock Categories

Since we are approaching August, its best that a 2022 version of this topic should start.

With there being no committees I expect the nominations to be very mainstream and based far more on popularity than critically supported darlings, so expect the likes of Foo Fighters and Weezer far more than the likes of last years nominees Michael Kiwanuka and Fontaines DC for example.

I agree Gojira is definitely happening in Metal Performance, forgot they released. Poppy is happening too with the song she performed this year at the Grammys

So Metal Performance last year was a case of 3 first time nominees, one of them a newcomer (Poppy) and two veteran bands (Power Trip and In This Moment), and then there was the few that have been nominated before but never won (Body Count and Code Orange)

I feel like Deafheaven, Gojira and Poppy all fit that category of, they have been nominated before but have yet to win, then I would put at least one band that has yet to be nominated because there always seems to be a first time nominee in this category.

Funnily enough I think Van Weezer might be the Van Halen nomination if you get what I mean, I feel like naming the album Van Weezer and then after he passed away, dedicating the album to Eddie Van Halen almost feels like Oscar bait as honourable as it probably was.

I hope they don’t nominate AC/DC just because they’re AC/DC.

Also, I may be mistaken “Delta Kream” sounds more like an Americana album due to its roots/blues influence.

Maybe Cannibal Corpse, Architects or Jinjer?

I don’t know if Helloween and Powerwolf are popular in America. They’re really big here in Europe.

I could see any of them to be fair, especially Corpse, they fit that well respected band getting a first nomination vibe.

Maneskin is one of those bands where its head vs heart, my heart says that they will get nominated in Best New Artist, Best Rock Performance/Song and maybe Album, but my brain for some reason tells me that they get completely shut out because Eurovision/Foreign Language Rock has hardly ever translated to Grammy nominations regardless of success.
