I always like to be positive, and I think, I almost see the Rock nominations this year as a final goodbye to the likes of AC/DC, Chris Cornell, Van Halen and Paul McCartney. This would be rather lovely if this truly was the case.

Foo Fighters and Weezer may feel like they might have a few years left in them yet before their time at the Grammys is done.

    MY NOMINATION PREDICTION RESULTS
    Best Alternative Album - 2 out of 5 in 2019, 4 out of 5 in 2020, 3 out of 5 in 2021.
    Best Rock Performance - 2 out of 5 in 2019, 3 out of 6 in 2020, 0 out of 5 in 2021.
    Best Rock Song - 3 out of 5 in 2019, 2 out of 5 in 2020, 0 out of 5 in 2021.
    Best Rock Album - 1 out of 5 in 2019, 2020 and 2021.
    Best Metal Performance - 0 out of 5 in 2019, 2 out of 5 in 2020, 3 out of 5 in 2021.

Halsey could very well win Alternative Album. All she needed was a nomination. She’s arguably the biggest artist in the category which doesn’t necessarily mean she’ll win. But sometimes at the Grammys voters will name check certain categories. It also doesn’t hurt that Trent Reznor/Atticus Ross produced it. I truly do think Halsey can do pull off a victory.

Then the voters are going to go with what they already know and award St. Vincent.

I think St.Vincent would be a very safe prediction but I’m gonna go with Halsey. Her album did well critically and is making its mark in the YE lists too. Having Trent Raznor and Atticus Ross is a huuuge plus. In contrast, Daddy’s Home is old news and wasn’t as widely acclaimed as St.Vincent’s past work.

I think Halsey will pull it off

Am I crazy for considering Japanese Breakfast in alt album? I might be biased because I love the album but Brekkie’s campaigning A LOT. She got a fairly surprising BNA nom. It also feels like Jubilee has the most hype of any of these nominees.

Alt Album is the hardest category this year IMO.

    Critics pick = Jubilee
Artsy pick = Collapsed in Sunbeams
Commercial pick = If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power
    Veteran pick = Daddy’s Home/Shore

I can see an argument for each of the nominees. I might ultimately go for Halsry cuz she’s the one with the biggest campaign and the biggest album does have a good track record here, and I think Reznor and Ross might pull in voters.

The Best Metal Performance nominated songs are so much better than the Rock Performance ones this year

FACTS! The rock field needs to get with 2022 stat. They are stuck with artists who had their commerical/critical peak in the 80’s/90’s. There are good rock artists now!

I’m rooting for Daddy’s Home, or Jubilee as the snub.

I think it’s between Halsey and St. Vincent with a slight edge for St. Vincent. I think Halsey would be a more inspired choice. I love St. Vincent, but this album is not my favourite. I didn’t love Halsey’s either, but I appreciate what she’s doing here. I would honestly prefer any of the other three albums. I don’t think Arlo or Fleet Foxes have enough buzz right now, while Japanese Breakfast is everywhere on music and book blogs and year end lists. I think she is your dark horse surprise.

Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters passed away. If they won this coming Grammys it’ll be posthumous award for him.
